Two ex-pro's Fighting on the unlicensed circuit

Two ex-pro's are fighting against each other in a heavyweight title.
Sven Hamer fights Gary Furby
just saw the flyer and looks pretty good!

Is anybody going from this forum?

where is it theres a lot of ex pro's who have boxed on them shows
DOMINIC NEGUS
MARK POTTER
KEVIN MITCHEL (cruiserweight)
DARREN COVELL
KARL BARWISE
BUTCH LESLEY
to name a few there are also some fighters who have boxed on them shows who are still active when you speak to them they all say the same that they earn mory money for a 3+2s or 4+2s than they would for a 6 or 8 rounder as a pro

Former Northern Area and British Masters middleweight champ Ian Cooper also doing a bit now. Super talent was Ian. Stood Jim Rock on his head when Rock was getting the big build up (3-page feature in Ring Magazine) and he was just a novice then really. Had one shocking decision against Ojay Abrahams go against him, packed it up, hit the drink, ended up in trouble with the law and never fought again. Top lad and a shame he didn't realise hit potential.

How has he got on in these unlicenced fights. Surely an in-shape and motivated ex pro Heavyweight would crush most of the competition found on these bills?

From the show's I have been to,the better ticket seller you are,the easier your fight!!

Couple of my mates(ex-pro's)boxed a few times on these show's.
They were fed Russian "imports"(reckon they were found down the local doss house myself)and the "fight's" lasted all of 30 second's a piece!!!

Incidently,the fella's I know,reckon they earned more fighting on these card's than when they were pro's(both good ticket mover's though)

Back in the late 70's early 80's a certain young Mr Warren when he was managing and promoting unlicenced fights used to say his fighters were better paid and his bills were better attended than most BBBofC cards at the time.

he was in a great fight with ian toby....shame he didn't keep at it

Never really been impressed by the little unlicensed stuff I have seen TBH.

If they were good enough, or healthy enough, they would be on licensed shows IMO.

Mickey Steeds is the best fighter to imerge from this circuit in recent times isnt he?

yes he boxed about 3 weeks ago at york hall and by all acounts it kicked off i heard he got hit up the nuts and fliped and a couple of his mates jumped up and attacked his apponent potter was bang out of order from what i heard it was stopped by security and the show was called off so at the end of the day he's spoiled it for everyone i spoke to one of his mates the next day even he said potter is as thick as sh4T for doing that now he wont be able to earn money boxing because know one will have him on there shows

Never met the guy but I didn't think Potter was like that.

I understand that former British Heavyweight Champion Trevor H Currie used to dabble in the Unlicenced scene as well a few years ago, I have no idea if he still does.

Know a few guys who are regulary paid to "fall down" on these shows for an extra couple of hundred quid against guys who`d they`d stop in a round if they chose to.
As said you can have all the wins you like if you sell enough tickets pretty much the same as pro boxing.

west hams mark tibbs is due to box on a unlicence show at the circus tavern in september top of the bill will be dominic negus

as a pro marks record was W22 L2 D1

Wasn't Negus banned by the BBBoC for illegal substances in his blood stream?

I know you see him working security at alot of shows, must sell a few tickets on the unlicenced shows, as he appears quite often.
Negus seems a genuine sort, but i wouldn't like to get on his wrong side.

The Tibbs are a fighting family by all accounts. Jimmy was a terror in his day I have heard.

hes a lovely fella - i reckon if it were not for the fact that he got a bit tasty with A-Farce (the fight where the blood test was done) that he would have been had back - but the fact he stuck the nut on Fraudley in retaliation for low blows + the drugs = no way back for Dom.... he kicked a few arses at the Tavern tho.... whens the next show 1southpaw? we still going?

A pal of mine beat Julius Francis and Danny Williams on the unlicensed circuit....I saw one of his fights with Julius but not the Williams one.

I knew Francis fought unlicensed - He fought Wayne 'the Duke' Gibson, who fought both my uncles (not together lol)

I never heard that Williams did unlicensed as well?
