Yeah I thought he'd messed up badly when he dropped down to take the 8 count again, and the ref might have counted him out.

I'd guess that someone in his corner panicked a bit, and was a bit late waving him to stay down and take the full 8 count. Or Amir was a bit late registering it.

Same thing happened to ex lightweight champ Rafael Ruelas: corner mistimed the count in an early contest, and he was counted out even though he was ok to continue.

In fact, he's a good example of a supposedly fragile fighter who went all the way. And current s.bantam champ Rafael Marquez: ko'd three times early in his career. Now on the P4P list.

But were these lads in big trouble against a known non-puncher?

What worries me is Khans legs go when he was hit, same against Watson in the Am's. These are not flash knockdowns and it takes him a good minute to get any life back in them.
One of his problems IMO is his back foot isn't set correctly so he leans back away from a shot instead of moving back, when he leans his chin is exposed.

Stopwatched it, Kahn was rising at 9.64 seconds.

He was up at 10. He should have lost by KO.

All of it is somewhat academic, becuase he is gonna get KO'd as soon as he faces a big Lightweight who can dig.

Thing is against Watson, he seemed to recover pretty quickly, whereas here he was badly hurt for some time. He was however able to land punches in return, but doing that against a big puncher, he would have gotten mowed down.

I've ALWAYS had my doubts about Khan, but this result merely confirms them, I don't think his career path is any different. I think he can win a title belt, but I don't see him as being any kind of dominant champion. Not without huge amounts of change in his technical prowess.

The rule is its not seconds - its the count. It doesn't matter how long a fighters down for or how many seconds pass its how the ref counts. No sensible fighter gets up too quickly they gradually rise to 1 knee and let the ref reach 8or9 before rising

Yes of course this is true, I'm sure everyone here is aware of that, however it is the timekeeper who is supposed to give the count, the referee starts the count, and the timekeeper is supposed to give them the count.

Isn't it time we brought some modern technology into this, and had an automatic recording or something which is started at the referees bidding.

I'm a big Khan fan, but i'm worried he's being trained to try and convert him to be a puncher, when he's not,. Khan hits with some power, but its his speed thats his biggest asset. He's needs to get back to boxing on the move, picking his shots, he'll still be able to break opponents down . Also he can still be entertaining boxing like that.

Look at Luevano and Molitor they are box/movers and still entertain

yes, and they both get stoppages too, both stopped their opponents last time out, whilst boxing on the back foot.

Khan comes dashing forward all the time head first with all his weight over his front foot.

Hopefully following getting clattered like that, he will make some adjustments.
