Other Weekend Results

Post by steve689 »

Sorry if some of these have already been discussed but trying to avoid anything slipping the net from a packed weekend of action.

In Canada Steve Molitor knocked out decent South African Takalani Ndlovu in the 9th round in defence of his IBF title. Molitor seems to be devloping into a bit of a puncher as well as a skillful stylist. Belfast boy Martin Lindsay also won over 6 on the undercard over Jose Silveira.

Jamie Cox won his pro debut while i just noticed Matthew Hall was cocked in 1 by Concepcion!

Tony Thompson KO'd Luan Krasniqi in 5 rounds. I expected Krasniqi to win a close decision as Thompson looked a little flat in his last bout versus Timur Ibragimov, however Thompson stuck true to his word and put Krasniqi on his back for the count as he promised. Krasniqi's days at a decent level seem over. Dimitrenko stopped Malcolm Tann in 5 as well....time for "Sasha" to step it up.

Roy Jones Jnr plodded on beating Anthony Hanshaw over 12 (i backed Hanshaw! Oops) and Trinidad is maybe next? Who would want to see that one?

Vasiliy Jirov beat Kenny Craven predictably in 2 rounds.

And finally in Mexico on Friday Cristian Mijares a classy fighter beat Tepei Kikui while Lorenzo Trejo and Gamaliel Diaz both won on the massive 16 fight undercard! Other than main eventer Cristian there were 3 other fighters featured called Mijares...did he bring his whole family with him?!

Any thoughts? :box:

Getting a mixed view on Jones - probably why the scoring was so diverse. When he was in the centre of the ring, he was apparently looking very good and throwing lots of shots - outclassing the decent Hanshaw. Then he would lay on the ropes and allow Hanshaw back into the fight. Nobody can really understand why - he didn't appear tired or outstrengthed... it appeared to be a tactical decision. He did this vs Ajamu aswell.

A decent win for Jones... I think he deserves a shot at the title, and could win it. Although, I wouldn't like to see him in with Dawson, Kessler or Calzaghe.

Looking at some results i saw a name from the past , Wilford Scypion , but this one turned out to be the son of the former middleweight contender. Wilford Scypion Jr won his 2nd fight by KO , he also fights as a middleweight.

The RJJ bill must have been like an old timers reunion, you had Derrick Gainer and Ezra Sellers making comebacks. can't see either of them managing much.

Does anyone else dislike Derrick Gainer as much as me? I stayed up to watch is fight against Juan Manuel Marquez in 2003 and he did everything he coudl not to fight and looked for every excuse to get out of there, I think he got a cut in the 7th and quit.

God knows what I would have been like if I had paid to see that! I was so glad he retired but now he's back and seemed to get a gift of a decision on saturday night.
