It's only a problem because other people are making one that doesn't exist. The only problem I had with it was that it made for a boring entrance.

Agreed wasnt a problem, this time, but it could add to what can be a volitile crowd. There is a moral responsibility to ensure you dont entice violence, its like when football players run to the away end shouting and scremaing after a goal - you just shouldnt do it, really.

In actual fact I couldnt give a shit. I was just glad Pryce got the W and dispelled the bizzare myth that Small was anything more than a whopper in a scream mask.

I think anyone who has an ounce of sense will agree people of whatever colour or religion have a right to their beliefs subject of course to the laws of the land.

However Musilms are going to have a hard time in this country, solely because some of the more ignorant people who will tarnish groups/religions with the same brush as the extremeists which of course is very wrong and should not be tolerated.

But, the music that Small came out to on Saturday evening at best has to be called insensitive to the very least, as Carlos Wigan has pointed out there are now hundreds of our troops being killed and even more being seriously injured and so there will be many people extremely sensitive whether that is right or wrong, nonetheless the sensitivity will be there.

Someone mentions Evander Holyfield, he comes out to gospel music some of which is quite wide selling and a lot of people enjoy listening too, how many people can honestly say they enjoyed Smalls entrance and in addition does anyone out there think it bizarre when you consider the happy go lucky Anthony Small who loved to entertain and have a laugh with his fans on the way to the ring was completely different.

The final comment is and no one has pointed it out, if indeed myself and others are wrong and Small was coming out to some form of "peace" or "placid" chant or whatever it was called and if Small is to be given the benefit of the doubt Why on earth was he wearing a "scream" mask?

Small has always come out with his scream mask on and I agree some of his ring entrances have been very entertaining but his mistake in my opinion was to mix that with his religious beliefs, very bizarre.

Barry McGuigan had the right idea in his fighting days with regards to ring entrance 'extras'. The Dove Of Peace Flag etc.

It is interesting that posters are comparing boxing to football sectarianism.

I am nearly 35 and was in a gym from 1980 till 1995.

I boxed for Westminster and St Pancras

I sparred all over London, Kingston, Acton, Battersea, Earlsfield, Lion, Stowe, All Stars, Lynn etc.

I grew up on a mainly white/black west Indian Estate.

Through Boxing I met all races and religions.

We all got on. There was mutual respect.

We didnt let the troubles of the outside world interfere with the gym.

I remember Dave Dent, John Hanley, Trigger Bantan, Conn McMullen, Neil Dickinson, Vince Burns, John Collins, Wayne Alexander, Matthew Barr, Paul Hersey, Graham Brett Peter Wilson, Howard Eastman, Anthony Campbell Kane Archer etc..

Regardless of ability we all had respect for each other.

I think boxing was one of the few areas which cut across race lines under aphartite(sp) in South Africa.

Respect is the important thing here, colour, race, creed religion etc gives you no advantages in the boxing ring.

To get political here, boxing teaches kids more about values than the champagne socialist, liberal namby pamby rhetoric.

Banning the sport from schools is a nonsense.

N.B have had my nose bust by both Matt Barr and Anthony Campbell!

To me, all the music they play on the IED videos sounds the same but it is religious islamic music quotng texts from the koran, so no - it is not chants in Arabic singing 'kill the british, kills the septics' If Small was Iraqi or Arabic then the music would still be in bad taste.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=x1TQ2eukr ... ed&search=

The music was played for a reason and to evoke a reaction. Everyone has their views on the war in Iraq but the British soldiers dying in Iraq are just like us. Boxing fans, football fans who chose to go in the army.. if anything like me because they had no education and didn't want to be a dole grabbing chav for the rest of their lives.

Small has the right to play whatever entrance music he wants and can believe what he wants but if Tommy Farr played the 'Horst Wessel' as rin enterance music in 1939. It wouldn't have made him very smart would it?

Do you think that Rangers should walk out to something like 'The Sash' during an Old Firm game?

Of course not, even though there's nothing stopping them. In the end, common sense and tact tells you that it's not really a sensible thing to do and, with the current climate, Small's choice really was ill judged at best.
Excellent points, i totally agree, it's all about common sense. Imagine the sash before an old firm?? Flip me there would be a riot.

Jesus...enjoying religious chanting and using it to motivate yourself is slightly differant to being happy that allied soldiers are getting blown to shit..

As has been stated previously no-one complains when Evander comes in to Gospel music

We are not at war with the Muslim world, we are at war with extremists.

But I tell you summet, with this kind of intolerance we will be pushing normal Muslims into the arms of the some very bad people!

And who said they were? No-one has said that.

The music used on videos shown on the internet of British troops being blown up is the music Antony Small used to come into the ring, the fact that it is religious music preaching texts from the Koran is beside the point. The point is that British men are dying in Iraq through IEDs, their slayings are sold on DVD for a dollar on the streets of Baghdad and for Small to adopt the music that are on those DVDs is at best rank stupidity and at worst a treacherous two fingers up to all of us in the country.

Now anyone who knows me will vouch I'm the biggest anti-racist, pinko, PC liberal, lefty if not in the world then on boxrec :TU:

But Small's ring music was irresponsible and ill advised, if anyone can post up Smalls ring enterance on saturday I will get an IED video of the same music as Smalls ring enterance tune.

But its still a dimension jump mate...some Muslim dickheads do an IED to Muslim chanting, religious texts from the Koran...to me thats differant to Muslim chanting being the 'soundtrack to allied deaths'!

Its like that stupid Arab guy in WWE(which I dont watch) He starts speaking in Arabic and the crowd boo, it doesnt matter that that he could be saying 'I like fluffy bunnies and ice cream', it doesnt matter, Arabic is evil...

If people are getting upset about this(and im not saying YOU are) then it says more about their ignorance, we need to rise above that if we are going to make a better future

Terry D wrote:I watched a documentary in which a USA tank was going out on missions, during which I presume that Iraqi people could get killed (most likely the British soldiers will be slain by US troops who will shrug and say "we are going to jail dude"), with 'Cross-Eyed Mary' blasting-out of the speaker.

If I ever to go look around Iraq, once a centre of learning, now a desolate wasteland full of corpse-like people with no jobs or future, in fact a home from home, can I listen to 'Aqualung' on the ol' Ipod as long as no Iraqi person hears it and it makes them remember the time their wedding was shot to bits by kill-crazy Yanks who thought they were playing 'Doom'. In which case they are justified in beating me up because I was playing the music of death.

Can we play the Russian national anthem if a Russian fights over here given the current diplomatic situation? If we play the Russian national anthem will pissed-up Brits start a punch-up? If so can I ask them to follow a different sport? Can I drink Smirnoff in front of British people without rubbing their noses in the Russian terror attack (which it basically amounted too but hey at least they are European terrorists over there)?

Arabic chanting music existed before the Internet broadcasts used it, perhaps Small wanted it to uplifting him pre-fight and all this reading into it says more about you than the choice of music Smalls hears. Are you saying the Muslim/Brit divide is now as deeply entrenched as the Catholic/Protestant divide? Did people stop listening to Wagner during WWI and WWII?

This strand, was it started by someone terribly earnest and a man of the people, Tony Parsons perhaps?
If... one day peace is restored in Iraq and we had a mythical Iraqi boxing promoter who brought over British fighters to box the local talent and the ring music was the kind of crap American GIs play loud in their armoured humvees when blowing off a few rounds amongst the Iraqi populace. Lets say some Iron Maiden. Now Iron Maiden is not evil in itself but music ia a powerful reflector of experiences and times past and present.

Thats why 'God Save the Queen' was never played at Lansdowne road during the 5/6 nations and I don't know if they play it at Tolka park but if they do play it at the home of Gaelic football then I would be suprised. But why is this Terry? Is it because 'God save the queen' is a terrible dirge or is it because of more substansial reasons?

The religious music Small played reminded me of the IED videos in Iraq bcause it is the same music. Now if Small boxed in Argentina it wouldn't be a problem, however he is fighting in a country which have troops in Iraq and wose deaths have been posted on the internet with the music Small played into the ring in the background.
Small wanted it to uplifting him pre-fight and all this reading into it says more about you than the choice of music Smalls hears.
Tell me please, what does it say about me? A bit on online pop psychology about someone yo have never met Terry? I'm up for that, I will give you marks out of 10 but I guess you will be wide of the mark of any ill made judgements about me.

It is all about commonsense, so can you use some and not try and
compare a Russian in-house bun fight between ex KGB combatants
and british troops being killed in iraq? cheers! :TU:

You are absolutely right.

It was an illegal war and an oil grab. Nothing else to it.

But while British troops are dying out there, decorum should be maintained at all times by all members of the community.

Could you if the music is the same music as on the IED videos? yes or no?

Terry D wrote:So Carlos, once you ban the Arabic music what next? The Koran, or a misreading, is used in these videos. So too are Muslim symbols. Should we ban them also?

How about banning Muslims also? There are Muslims, or people who say they are Muslims, in these Internet videos. Fancy opening-up a 'I don't know about you but I find the existence of Muslims offensive' strand.

It is the same line of argument you followed about the song. Why not dispute the point about Arabic music existing before its use in these Internet videos? Because you can't? fair enough.

'God Save the Queen' is specifically patriotic. Its title indicates that. We do not even know what Smalls' song was, just that a bunch of people on the Internet (which also spreads insurgency but hey I want to watch free-fights and post on forums but I'll ignore the pain and hurt the Internet causes because it suits me right now) claim it sounds a little bit like Arabic death music. So we should ban all Arabic music. You do not even know what this song was, you just know it sounds alien and scary so people should not be allowed to listen to it.

You do not know the content of this music, its theme or its lyrics; you just had a knee-jerk reaction and if you went to the police and said: "I heard some Arabic guys talking on the bus, it sounded like the stuff you hear on the 'net, terror stuff, fancy arresting them' they would rightly think you were a tad too vigilant.

I am not going to psychoanalyse, it was a quip and is probably true all the same. All I know is that you have a hair across your a*se over a bit of music but you, and your ilk on this strand, are making a right hash of justifying your stance other than the typical "Brits are dying in Iraq." Next it will be "Well my cousin is in the army..." then "You can say all this because my father fought in...". It is emotive and unsound.

Wake-up and smell the turpitude.

Ps Remember to check under the bed for terrorists tonight
Terry, where do I say 'ban Arabic music' How on earth can we ban 'Arabic music' by your statment you are trying to imply that I said we should ban all Arabic music when I said no such thing at all. Go back and read my posts again.

As for your silly little statment.
How about banning Muslims also? There are Muslims, or people who say they are Muslims, in these Internet videos. Fancy opening-up a 'I don't know about you but I find the existence of Muslims offensive' strand.
I take absolute offence at that and I have suffered more racism as a mixed race youth in Wigan and fought racism more times than you ever have done. There is a picture of me in this book the time the BNP came to Burnley to attack the Asian population amongst members of the riot sqaud on horses. My cousins were the top fellers of this paticular anti fascist group and I was a member/foot soldier.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/No-Retreat-Dave ... 923&sr=1-1

I don't claim to have done lots of things but I bet any money I have done more than you to stop intolerance and hate towards the muslims communities of this country. so STFU unless you got off your backside and did something practical to stop racism in our communities.

However, and this is what I have said all along. All communities need to practice decorum, not just muslims but everybody. It would help that
Small showed a bit more sense and decorum on saturday night, everyone can scream and shout about their infringments of civil liberties and their 'free speech' but in my opinion 'free speech' has to be handled with responsibility and maturity.

Smalls choice of music was both irrepsonsible and immature, simple as that really, and you haven't the brain or the foresight to do a decent pscyhoanalysis on a housebrick, never mind me. :TU:

Its true, in no way do i think Carlos is a racist, its just this 'Arab Prayer-Death to the infidels' connection that baffles me!!

Now if Small came out with 5 guys dressed in all black and wearing balaclavas behind him then I could see the problem...this is prayer...totally differant

Bout right

That is the reason the allied forces did not invade Iraq after the Kuwait war as they realised it was too big a job.

It was hoped that revolution would come from within after this war was lost but Saddam held onto power.

This time around they did not have the Kuwait premise so Iraq was directly invaded and a victors democracy has been imposed.

You cannot impose systems of government on people, they must evolve, or are a recipe for disaster.

Look at Weimar Germany after 1918, I think this is a decent historical comparison and the disaster which ensued.

Excellent post..

A big problem is that we have to deal with savages over there like Muqtadr Al Sadr. We have to be nice to guys like this, to bring them into government or at least take their views on board. Meanwhile they are stringing Sunnis up as a hobby which I dont really think encourages the Sunni insurgents to stop their attacks..

Now if Saddam was around and he was pulling this shit methinks it would come to an end very quickly.. :o

Now im not lauding Saddam who was a bit of a scumbag BUT it just proves that the decision post Gulf War was correct..we have meesed up big time and we are all suffering because of it :(
