Duddy is a solid honest pro.

Who's to say that with all Taylor's talent, on a given night, that Duddy wouldn't outwork him if Taylor comes in lacklustre. It's the same reason that a lot of people think that Pavlik may have the beating of Taylor.

But the crux of this argument is how would Duddy go against Pavlik? Personally I wouldn't give him much hope. Taylor is more talented and Pavlik would outwork and probably TKO him IMO.

Which brings us back to the question of how does he rate as a MW. He's solid but not in the class of the above for starters, but wouldn't dismiss his ability to pick up a version of a title in the right situation and at the right time.

And I for one wouldn't begrudge that.

duddy is'nt bad but very 1 dimensional,that will only take him so far,but if u ask any boxing fan wud u rather watch duddy,gatti r similar brawlers, or ppl like PBF and taylor ,most wud say brawlers,least u no they earning ur money!

Cuevas, Campas, Bonsante, Strickland and now Furlan. All very good fights because Duddy looked fairly pedestrian and easy to hit.

Given the stick Khan got for one, very, bad round in an overall average fight by his standards why is Duddy still seen as a prospect. Even Autobahn would be unlikely to pick Duddy over Taylor and it is hard to see how Duddy can break the top-ten before someone breaks his winning run.

Call me cynical but shouldn't they just molly-coddle Duddy in the hope of getting him a Paddies Day fight with a title-holder so they can sell-out MSG?

There has been zero improvement, hence the 100% entertainment, in his recent fights. Cuevas warned him he gets hit too much after their fight and John seems to have that typically Irish "You say I get hit a lot, well watch this, I'll get hit even more you bastard".

Or does anyone really rate Duddy?

How can you compare duddy and khan? khan is a spoilt little ponce and the next world champ apparently..who nearly got knocked the flip out by a pillow fisted smaller man... duddy has good scraps and hits very hard and takes some to get his off. Look at who khan has been in with and who john has there is no comparison.

Duddy is ranked in the top ten by most of the organisations already, how any english man can critisize irish boxing after the farce on itv this weekend is beyond me. Skelton and sprotty was good 'entertainment'.

Did I directly compare Khan and Duddy? I missed the line "Khan, like Duddy, seems to have a weak chin".

I pointed-out that one prospect, Khan, gets stick for a few bad rounds, and we are yet to see if he changes anything, but the other prospect, Duddy, has had a run of fights in which he warred with his opponents simply because he has flatlined in terms of his development.

Duddy fights are good entertainment because he gets hit a lot, really good fighters rarely have these type of fights, let alone 2-3 in a row.

We keep hearing that Duddy could stop this style of fighting "if he wanted too" then they say, like Gatti, he does not want to. Ok, so he is stupid as a fighter and that is a flaw.

Duddy may scrape the top ten but that is about it. Taylor will destroy Pavlik and maybe move up a weight leaving Duddy in a good position to fight for a vacant title, get him someone decent in the other corner and he will lose.

Duddy is looking stalled as a fighter.

This looks like a direct comparison between two prospects to me,

my point was that duddy is never gonna be sugar ray leonard but at the end of the day i dont see him being hailed as the saviour of his division and he is packaged as an all action fighter so i dont see what your point is to be honest as people from his 'camp' are not coming on telly spouting off about john being more elusive and he has said himself that he needs to work with his new trainer on this if you get a chance to see post fight interviews from saturday nights fight then you will have all your questions answered as both duddy and his new trainer spoke about the work needed. Basically it was said that duddy needs 3-4 good fights over the next year along with a lot of work in the gym then a move towards a world title.

The punch I'd use if fighting Duddy is the uppercut.

He walks forward a lot without a lot of movement and leaves enough space for an uppercut. A good uppercut would stop him dead in his tracks every time and take his main strength.

I would imagine Duddy is back in Ireland for two reasons 1. To cash in on the Irish support and dough and 2. To have a crack at the European title. Duddy V Eastman would indeed be a good fight but Howard may "old man" Duddy out of it. Alternatively Duddy V Asikainen would be a good scrap, Asikainen is tough and can punch but is also a bit open defensively. Then maybe Duddy could aim for Sebastian Sylvester providing he is still European champion (i imagine Sylvester-Asikainen III may be next).

All in all Taylor at the top of the tree may just look sensational and blitz Pavlik but more than likely Pavlik will give him fits and outwork Taylor.

And finally....on the subject of Middleweights, why is the talented Abraham fighting a no mark like Khoren Gevor next? I thought after easing himself in against the overmatched Sebastian Demers he would look for that unification we all want to see (well i do) against Felix Sturm??
