see the fight as a 50-50 pick'em so 7-2 odds against Braithwaite winning are very appealing....its rare that i gamble (and by gamble i mean no more than 15 quid)...so i'll size things up after the weigh in
Braithwaite at his best is a world class cruiserweight, ok so the question is, if he is the same big truck that walked through Cantatore?...ruthless to the degree that he almost took Cantatore's head off while the Italian was moaning to the ref....it's hard to say.
Unfortunately i haven't had the benefit of seeing the Big Truck since he was run over by Le Tank, Jean Marc Mormeck....there is no shame in losing to Guilmero Jones (even if he was clean)....but a 4th round tko defeat against the former light middlweight is a little alarming....and the inactivity since goes further to justify what were once mouth-watering odds
However.......this is a world title fight (of sorts). Maybe Braithwaite has refound his hunger for what could be his last chance....at 31 years and 24 fights, if he is motivated....he should have plenty left in the big tank....
Let's look at Enzo....he has progressed very well, but only last March did he go 12, tough rounds with Mark Hobson. Until he unleashed the mother of uppercuts against ultra-durable Dominguez...he was struggling, and perhaps a round or two down.....Braithwaite, not even at his best, but close to, should provide a bigger test....
I don't see the fight reaching the mid-way point of the scheduled 12.....a lot depends on if and how much has Braithwaite slipped....i got a feeling he's up for this one, and is gonna surprise a few people including the bookies.....Big Truck within 6 exciting rounds.....
....Thompson-Sellers anyone!?!

Didn't Curry win a high profile (may be world title) Light Middle fight (or a successful defence) due to persistant head butting by his opponent... a fight Curry was struggling in aswell if I remember. Remember it being shown on Saint and Greavsie.Autobarn wrote:wasn't Mugabi's light middle title win a strange one. cut short by an ankle injury or something?stujones wrote:Was he, or was he just blown out by two big punchers in Norris and especially McClellan.
No-one was saying he was shot when he won his single world title the year before and when he was going through that impressive run of 1st round KO's himself.
Enzo weighed in at 194, Braithwaite at 195.5. I assume this is a deliberate move by his camp knowing Braithwaite is a small cruiser and looking to get some extra speed and sharpness perhaps? Kind of rubbishes all the talk of Enzo moving up to Heavyweight really he obviously makes Cruiser pretty easily.
it does ring a bell. Curry does have a DQ win for the 154 lb title.stujones wrote:Didn't Curry win a high profile (may be world title) Light Middle fight (or a successful defence) due to persistant head butting by his opponent... a fight Curry was struggling in aswell if I remember. Very surprising. Normally, Enzo is closer to 200 and Braithwaite is closer to the old limit, 190.nickd wrote:Enzo weighed in at 194, Braithwaite at 195.5. Not sure how well Wayne is going to cary that weight. Also, Enzo could have done with that extra poundage for strength. They're obviously playing it for speed.
This all sounds a bit weird.

Think that may have been Curry's fight with Rosi in Italy, seem to recall Don complaining about Rosi's head.Autobarn wrote:it does ring a bell. And Jacquet twisted his ankle in the 1st against Mugabi and had to be carried out.
I have this fight on tape and will check if I can find it but going from memory Mugabis shot glanced off his head and hit his shoulder whch knocked Jacquet doown who twisted his ankle whilst he fell.Autobarn wrote:Did Mugabi drop him and then he hurt his ankle? Or did he just hurt his ankle, fall over and lose?
But if I can find the tape I will have a closer look.

I think he just missed a swipe, fell over and twisted his ankle. Pretty funny as just before he had come to the ring to the dramatic tones of Rocky, trumpets blaring, crowd cheering, then 5 mins later he's being carried out on his handlers shoulders, holding his foot, and someone put the Rocky song again...French farce at it's best ![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Wikipedia claims that Curry won two back to back USBA Light Middleweight title fights due to a head clash in the 5th round. Not sure which one of these two was showcased on Saint and Greavsie... but in that one Curry was struggling.MightyWarrior wrote:Think that may have been Curry's fight with Rosi in Italy, seem to recall Don complaining about Rosi's head.Autobarn wrote:it does ring a bell. It just goes to show....
After the deplorable Skelton fight last weekend I began to think 2 old ladies scuffling in a phone box would have been a better boxing demonstration. But it just goes to show that there are real fighters to enjoy in Britain - mainly thanks to the first class coaching of Enzo Calzaghe.
Enzo Macarinelli put on a great boxing display and soldiered on to a resounding win despite carrying an injury to the right hand.
Gavin Rees showed that determination and sheer "will to win" can conquer all and deservedly wears a world title belt today.
The question we must all ask is... Why on earth are we forced to watch lumbering old lard arses like Skelton, Sprott & Harrison? They may be big but they certainly are not clever or worth a mention on a boxing bill.
Worldwide the heavyweight division is a boring, second rate circus sideshow. Since the departure of Lennox Lewis the heavyweight scene has descended into farce. Had he been in good health even big Frank Bruno could comeback and win a version of a title.
The genuine boxing fans knew from the beginning that there never was a hope of "Fraud"ley Harrison ever lifting a belt let alone the lardies and telly tubbies like Skelton etc... So why doesn't Mr Warren wake up and smell the coffee? Anyone less than heavyweight is likely to produce a contest of some sort.... David Haye, Enzo, Clinton Woods, Calzaghe etc.... go down the weights and the more action you get. Hatton..Witter...Khan...It is not rocket science
If you want to fill the arena's try using talent...not lard!

Macca-Haye is 50-50. Mavc carries his chin high & Haye is great at KO'ing tall guys (Gurov would give most cruisers a hard time). Whereas Macca - even though he faced a bit over the last 2 rds last night - is a fit cruiser. He came in at 190-bloody-four. Whereas Haye is killing himself to make the weight. As such, in a long fight I go for Macca.
Macca was good when he was fighting Bruce Scott and Lamontagne. His left hook was wicked back then. But he does seem too have developed a lot and uses a very hard right hand these days.
