I'm impressed with Yanez winning the rematch against the Cuban. He may get a medal, possibly the gold and be one of the guys to have a legitimate shot at an Olympic medal depending on the draw. It would really be nice if the Olympics was a double elimination so that even if the two best boxers face each other in the prelimany round the loser could still have a shot at a medal.

This result has been changed after an official protest by the brazilian delegation. Apparently the computer made a mistake taking into account all five judges score in the countback, giving the win to Zambrano, but only the three closest scores should be taken into consideration and this way the win goes to Souza who now fights mexican Francisco Vargas for a medal.57kg Carlos Zambrano (Peru) d Davi Sousa (Brazil) 5-5

I was not impressed with Yanez despite him beating a cuban. Yampier Hernandez was nothing special and I'm sure Andry Laffita will replace him for the World Championships. I'll be highly surprised if Yanez wins gold here.Dennis wrote:I'm impressed with Yanez winning the rematch against the Cuban. I was impressed with Demetrius Andrade whom I had never seen before. With Lara out he looks a lock for gold. Also Downs was impressive in his victory over one of Brazil's best hopes. Downs didn't look good in the qualifiers but seems to be improving. However Yusiel Napoles looked good too and remains my choice for gold.
Ugas was a class act and should win here despite some close losses this year.

Hi Ricky: I have taped the Lima bout and will watch it later. However he lost last year to Jean Carlos Prada in a very tough battle here in Argentina, the same Prada that was outclassed against Andrade, so I keep Andrade as the favorite.
I was very dissapointed with Carlos Negron whom I had heard good things about. He lost to a fighter that wasn't one of the medal favorite and looked ordinary.

Unless the German computer they are using at the Pan Ams automatically tosses out the high and the low scores, yes, all 5 judges scores were part of the accepted score. If the Powers That Be decided during this tournament to score using other criteria, there were obviously the only ones who were aware of this. Sorry, but this type of crap really irritates me. Sounds to me like the Peru boxer got screwed by politics. From everything I've read, the criteria of taking the raw score and tossing out the high and the low will not even be implemented until after Beijing. If this criteria is being tested at the Pan Ams, they picked a poor place to do so since shipments to other countries have been suspended because there are bugs.Apparently the computer made a mistake taking into account all five judges score in the countback, giving the win to Zambrano, but only the three closest scores should be taken into consideration
Absolute B.S. that they did this.boxmel wrote:Unless the German computer they are using at the Pan Ams automatically tosses out the high and the low scores, yes, all 5 judges scores were part of the accepted score. I am most certain that if it was the Brazilian boxer that was at the other end the result wouldn't have been overturned.
Brazilian boxing is rotten to the core... all their authorities are good for is producing fighters with either fictitious or inflated records and cashing out on them when they get to the pros.
