After almost a year out of the ring, Croydon's former British and European light-middleweight champion Wayne Alexander returns to action on December 6.
Alexander, 29, fights Brixton's Delroy Mellis in an eight-rounder in Cardiff as part of the Joe Calzaghe undercard.
Mellis is a former Southern Area champion with a solid record of 19 wins and nine losses. Alexander has a record of 19 wins (16 by KO), with one loss to Harry Simon in a WBO light-middleweight title shot.
Alexander has not fought since he beat Ukrainian Vitor Fessechko at middleweight in January, and is now back with his trainer Jimmy Tibbs to prepare for a world title shot next year against WBO light-middleweight champion Daniel Santos.
Alexander is mandatory contender to Santos.

Will Alexander be able to solve Santos' slick southpaw style?
Unlikely I would have thought, especially given his safety first approach to boxing.
Against a devastating bomber like Wayne he will flit around the the edge of the ring and avoid the war that Wayne would love to entice him into..

Terrible Terry.

Santos vs Alexander will be intriguing, because as long as he's standing Wayne as a chance against anybody. However, I think his absence has made people forget his own flaws. I'm still far from convinced about Alexanders chin (and I used to love the arguments he used to have with Barry M about his chin).

I think Santos might actually KO Alexander. Sinclair is another fight with dodgy whiskers, but not more dodgy than Wayne's I'm afraid. If Santos can KO Sinclair then he can KO Alexander.

But Alexander will get the shot (i.e. he'll beat up guys like who he's fighting next everyday of the week).

True enough Stu, Alexander fits the age old mould of vulnerable puncher perfectly.

If Santos can get range and land classy, sharp counters, I am sure he has the power to potentially unhinge Wayne.
Having said that - I will be hoping Wayne can pull it out as he is a cracking fighter and great to watch.
