Fabulous news.
I notice the journalist states he goes to all the major fights. does he travel up and down the country watching his welsh fighters progressing in the early days?
Don't normally agree with Frank W arren but delighted on this occasion he has banned Jones hopefully it will be a permanent ban.

Why is this fabulous news????
Gareth Jones is a good man and a good journalist.
Being banned for this speculation is nonsensical.
And he does travel around the country for the little fights, working for Boxing News a lot of the time and also for local Welsh papers.
The majority of posters on here have said far worse and stated it as fact.
Should we all be banned from his shows too!!
We can all have an opinion, mine is Jones articles are both boring and blatantly obvious at times.Coco wrote:Albert wrote:Fabulous news.

Gareth can't do his job properly now. Nice one. And I can tell Gareth from experience that there is little point in trying to use logic and reason with SN's press man because it doesn't work.
So, what Gareth ought to do is pay for a seat and within the realms of fair comment report whatever he likes without fear of pulling his journalistic punches in the constant fear of getting banned.

Re: Local Journalist BANNED from Cardiff bill !!!!!!!!!
What gave offence might be that this seems to be a re-write of a piece in the Daily Express, which was the subject of legal letters. Possibly, a lack of quotes from those able to comment directly, ie FW and-or ITV or t.East, might have given provoked anger at a time when negotiations were in the balance. Sometimes speaking directly to those involved might be wise.the patriot wrote:http://icwales.icnetwork.co.uk/0700spor ... _page.html

With regards to yours and others opinions concerning Jones fair enough. There has been so many times Jones has written what I regard complete brown nosing drivel that is so one sided it is almost nauseating. That is why I am not upset or concerned in the slightest with his banning.
Of course we can all have an opinion, and if you feel he is boring and obvious then fair enough, but do you really think that is worthy of a permanent ban??Albert wrote:We can all have an opinion, mine is Jones articles are both boring and blatantly obvious at times.Coco wrote:Albert wrote:Fabulous news.

Is this a personal thing???
No it is not a personal thing. I can remember countless number of times the amount of what I believe was total shite Jones has written concerning Calzaghe's opponents and other boxing articles which was what I believe not based on fact but mere speculaton.
I cannot understand the admiration for Jones. After all he has not done a thing for free unlike many of the internet writers who are the ones who are last in the queue for credentials on the bigger fights when journalists suddenly turn out as hardened boxing fans yet it is the internet writers and some freelancers who turn up show after show not just because they are going to get a meal or front row seat off the promoter.

As do I. Shame on F rank Warren.Deserter wrote:I find it deeply sad that someone would back the banning of any journalist, not to mention the dangerous precedent it sets.
As for Warren, this type of activity just makes him look ridiculously thin-skinned. Banning a journalist is also ridiculously clumsy from a PR perspective.

Regardless of what you think of the writer in question, the issue here is the banning of ANY journalist from an event because the promoter didn't like what he wrote. The wider ramifications of this are important. Warren is essentially censoring the press. "If you don't play nice, I'm taking my ball home".Albert wrote:No it is not a personal thing. And this is Warrens atempt to make sure all journos keep towing the party line - ANOTHER FAB SHOW BY FRANK! - that's what he wants to hear.Albert wrote: With regards to yours and others opinions concerning Jones fair enough. Pathetic - Warren certainly wants his press coverage, then bans someone who comes out with an accurate article.
This has been the case for years tho. This isnt a new thing.oliverfennell wrote:Regardless of what you think of the writer in question, the issue here is the banning of ANY journalist from an event because the promoter didn't like what he wrote. I completely agree concerning your point concerning censoring the press. But in my opinion Jones has spouted so much shit he has got his come uppance, rumour after rumour, and there will be some posters who have even complained about him on this and other forums.
I will stress it is a very dangerous stance to take by W arren but I am afraid in the case of Jones I am not in the slightest bit sorry for him.
But I will say I was completely against the case of Claude Abrams and boxing news and think it is completely wrong with how Claude and his superb magazine have been treated in the past and the latest shit that is going on with Audley Harrison.

Thing is, it sadly appears Claude folded under the pressure of being banned from the next big show. He now tip toes around, terrified of saying anything remotely critical of Warren's shows.Albert wrote: But I will say I was completely against the case of Claude Abrams and boxing news and think it is completely wrong with how Claude and his superb magazine have been treated in the past and the latest shit that is going on with Audley Harrison.
Never more apparent than when they served up the God awful Bobby Gunn: did Claude let em have it? No chance, best he could come up with was to mildly pass the blame to the WBO ( yeah, like Gunn was a mandatory )
The late great Harry Mullan would have let Warren have both barrels for that cynical mismatch. Not Claude though....
that is the most ridiculous comparison i have EVER come across!!!! Paris f ing hilton!??!! are you sure?Neri wrote:Remember the FW-Boxing News spat? That was a disgrace and very childish. The promotor in question should try a day in the life of Paris Hilton. She has had the cruelest most hate filled articles ever written about her, and yet she manages.
Don king used to allow his critics to come to his fights, but upon arrival gave them all balcony seats in the sky, basically saying 'give me bad press, you i'll give you shitty seats!'.
at least gareth was able to see the fights at home on the TV!!!!
