Anyone know Ledermans card for Hopkins/Winky?

Post by Mensa07 »

I was amazed when the sky commentary said Lederman had Winky 2 up in I think the 10th round? I was wondering how his scorecard ended up at 12.

Is it just me or was Winky hardly in that fight for most of it, yet the commentary would have you believe he was all over Hopkins for a lot of it. Hopkins controlled virtually all the fight for me, and put by far the more effective offensive work together. Winkys offence was disappointing, desperate lunging in straight lines was never gonna work against BH.

Also note how if that was a Hatton fight all we'd be hearing is how rough Hatton is and how many clinches he starts etc. With Hopkins its 'just the way he fights'...

(I have no problem with clinching anyway, if one guy is clinching too much the other guy should adapt, if he knows how).

To their credit, Hatton and Hopkins have used holding as a tool on the inside to control the action. Hopkins did a ton of that from 1998 to 2001. Hatton controlled Castillo quite masterfully, disabling JLC's punches while finding space for his own.

Hopkins was say too messy last night. Hatton was way too messy vs Urango (though he may have been sick and spoiling to just get through it).

There are lots of double standards on here.

Winky seemed out of it. When he pressured there weren't any real punches behind it. Hopkins wasn't always getting through, though you have to give it to him if only on the grounds that he was more successful with his plan than WW.

Hopkins DID look troubled and frustrated. He didn't open that turtle defense like promised. And he wasn't keen on the pace either.

Lederman has never convinced me as a judge. He's an aggression junky, effective or not. Plus he sounds like Cliff from Cheers.
