Jamie Moore-Andrew Facey fight confirmed

Post by bennie »

Jamie Moore will defend his British and Commonwealth light-middleweight titles against Andrew Facey at the King's Hall on Saturday, November 22 on the Brian Magee-Hacine Cherifi show.
Facey earned his chance of course by beating Gilbert Eastman and, two weeks ago, Matt Macklin for the English light-middleweight title.

Bloody hell he obviously isn't looking to miss any oppurtunities this Facey lad. Imagine if he beat Moore (which I don't think he will) he'd have to be a contender for British fighter of the year.

Fair play to Facey - he isn't standing back admiring his work - though at 31 he has to step on the gas abit...

It will be interesting to see how Moore deals with Facey. I fear he will do little better then Macklin as Facey has got to be some boxer's vision of a nightmare.

Moore on points in a grueling one.

Facey's a tad more deserving that Scott Dixon. He's in good shape and I think can cause some major problems. Got to go with the fresher man, but the upset wouldn't suprise me in the slightest here.

Excellent match. Well done both guys, Jamie is keeping busy with good fighters and Facey could have attained a well earned rest.

Nice one .

I think Facey can trouble Moore like he did Macklin, but really...Moore would be expected to win this fight.

Facey does hang his chin out to dry, and Moore is a fair step up from Mackiln. Makes for an entertaining fight...sort of.

I just think Moore is going to find that chin much more regularly than Macklin managed and this will effectively take Facey out of the fight by about the 6th. The champion is going to have to take a few in the beginning though which will make it a good spectacle.

Facey is becoming the Light-Middleweight Matt Skelton!

I see Moore bringing his run to an end though, Facey looked fairly durable against Macklin so Moore might have to go the distance to do it.

Fair play to Andrew Facey, he's not hanging around.

I think he will definitely lose this fight, but his one hope has to be outlasting Moore. Moore has had notable stamina problems in the past, and although he's in better condition nowadays, Facey looks like a man who could fight three or four fights back to back. If Facey is to have any success it will be because of this.

Nothing else Facey does will trouble Moore. I personally do not like Facey's style at all, and found it very hard to give him much credit against Matt Macklin. Although he controlled the fight well, some of his punches were slaps, and he just looked really awkward and uneasy at times. As I say though, fair play to him, he won the fight in the way he knows how, and he's got a British title shot.

I think Facey will go the distance, as he seems to carry a good jaw, but Moore will be too busy for him, and just back him to the ropes throughout the fight. Moore throws harder digs to the body than Macklin, and that could be a key. Moore will slow Facey down with the body shots, and maybe even stop him late. As of now though I say Moore pts Facey in an interesting but not very competetive fight.

Good on Andrew Facey, not only a chance to win the British Belt, but a good pay day as well. It shows how little he got hit by Macklin if he is ready for this fight.

I can't predict a winner because I havent got the chance to see Moore box yet. Can somebody please tell me his style?

What I am sure is though Facey will be there to fight not just for the money.

Good on Barry Hearn for giving us the fans a good fight on a great card of boxing. For me I would take a good British title fight over a lesser "World" Title Fight any day of the week.

On the excellent Belfast card on Saturday, November 22 at the King's Hall, exciting British and Commonwealth light-middleweight champion Jamie Moore defends his titles against Sheffield's Andrew Facey, who earned his chance by outpointing the previously unbeaten Matt Macklin for the English light-middleweight title just two weeks ago at Dagenham.
Facey's manager John Ingle said: "He's beaten allegedly's boy, now he wants to beat Barry Hearn's boy."
He continued: "Andrew woke up the day after beating Macklin and said he was still very fresh. The 10 rounds took nothing out of him at all. He is more than ready willing and able to face Moore."
Facey looked a bit of a nightmare to fight against Macklin, a former ABA champion who had won nine in a row and was being given the build-up treatment by Sports Network and Sky-TV. Macklin banged well to the body and tried to keep the pressure on, but Facey, slick and awkward, took away Matthew's jab, forcing the 'house fighter' to wing his shots, which enabled the lanky, long-armed Facey to pick up points with jabs and cuffing counters, though it was a close, competitive fight all the way.
So this is an equally competitive-looking fight for Moore, even though the 25-year-old Salford southpaw looked superb in his last two outings: a comprehensive points win over the previously unbeaten Michael Jones to win the British and Commonwealth titles, and an impressive first defence in his own hometown last month against Gary Logan, who was broken up with body shots and taken out in the fifth.
Logan announced his retirement after the fight.
Currently 18-1 (11), Jamie took Logan apart far more impressively (and in half the time) than WBU light-middleweight champ Takaloo did last year. He was too busy for the veteran, maintaining a fast pace from the start. But there's more to him than just workrate. "His accuracy was brilliant," added Logan's trainer, Adam Booth. And he showed he has power, too. "If I'm brought along correctly in the next 12 months, I could be the best light-middleweight in the country," the champion stated afterwards.
But battle-hardened Facey, 31, won't be a pushover. His win over Gilbert Eastman earlier this year in three rounds is looking better and better since Eastman impressed in stopping Spencer Fearon for the Southern Area light-middleweight title, and he has also campaigned at full middleweight, where he won the Central Area middleweight title and boxed a WBF middleweight title eliminator with hard-hitting Damon Hague. Currently, 13-2-1 (5) Andrew, who orginates from Wolverhampton, will have height and reach over the stocky Moore and has absolutely nothing to lose coming in at such short notice and with his English title to fall back on. And he will take heart heart from Moore's only defeat two years ago at the hands of another lanky, neat-boxing fellow, Scott Dixon, who climbed off the floor to outlast Moore and win with body shots in the fifth round.
But the improving Moore has to be favoured.

IMO the best boxers in the long run are the ones that Sky don't build up. Look at who they've built up over the last few years. All of them but Ricky Hatton have now been exposed.
