So London Boys(I think they were an awful 90's band') Why does it happen?? Social deprevation or is it the gangster culture of our Black Music industry that result in sickening events like this??

Im Gutted bout James, I remember the Mckenzie and Welch fights, good days

You could blame Thatcherism 'there is no society, only the individual', too many people couldn't care less against about their fellow man. This is obviously the extreme. Being evil in order to have power, money, possesion and the admiration of peers/women. Whats more peers/women seem happy to admire people with power, money and possesions over decent & honest people

Rocky Balboa wrote:No, you are wrong. The people responsible for the shooting should be hanged, given the lethal injection or the electric chair. Until capital punishment is brought back in the UK, people will do what they want because they know their punishment will not reflect the crime committed.
But Rocky, do you seriously think before shooting someone anyone thinks "well I might get caught but it will only be life imprisonment which won't be too bad." When people kill they either do not believe they'll be caught or are in a state of mind incapible of making such a rational judgement. In the case of murder you can argue capital puishment for retribution but not for deterrant at least IMO anyway.

Thing is, with capital punishment, the minute you have a miscarriage of justice, the whole thing fails.

You CANNOT hang/electrocute/etc innocent people and despite the advanced technology used to catch criminals, you will always get that one innocent person who slips through the net. There will always be miscarriages of justice. It's bad that people do get put away despite being innocent, but at least they have the chane to appeal. Can't do that when you're dead.

We need stricter gun controls and sentences for those who carry them. It cannot be tolerated. Anyone caught carrying an unlicensed weapon should be put away for a long time, because there's no excuse for carrying a gun.

Very tragic news.

James Oyebola was a good honest professional who would have mixed well with the likes of Harrison, Sprott, Williams and Skelton. I remember the huge Oyebola challenging Herbire Hide to a Boxing match after one of Hides wins. Big Bad James dwarfed Herbie. I have never met James but he always stuck my as a bit of a gentle gient outside of the ring (as most huge guys are in my experience)

My thoughts are with his family. Keep punching Champ.

As for the sub-human filth that did this? I hope they have a long slow painfull death.

By Mark Staniforth, PA Sport
The British Boxing Board of Control have paid tribute to former heavyweight champion James Oyebola, who is fighting for his life in a London hospital after being shot in the face.

Oyebola was shot twice outside the Chateau 6 bar in Fulham in the early hours of Monday morning after asking three men to stop smoking. His condition is described as "critical".

Oyebola, 45, won a Commonwealth Games gold medal in 1986 and went on to reign as British heavyweight champion from 1994 to 1996. He subsequently became a respected boxing manager.

The Board's general secretary Simon Block said in a statement: "All of us here have been shocked to learn of the shooting of our former British heavyweight champion James Oyebola, now a manager.

"James... was an exemplary licence holder during his period as a boxer, and more latterly as a manager carefully guiding the career of current Commonwealth light-welterweight champion Ajose Olusegun.

"I have known him since he took out his licence in 1987 and last had a meeting with him prior to Ajose's penultimate contest that took place in Dagenham in March 2007.

"Throughout that time he was truly one of nature's gentlemen and to think of him lying in a hospital bed fighting for his life as a result of a cowardly and gutless attack by those who will not have been possessed of the same courage that he showed in the way he faced adversity, in and out of the ring, fills me with both sadness and dismay.

"On behalf of all the stewards, staff and members of the British Boxing Board of Control, and the Commonwealth Boxing Council, we extend to James' family our sincere sympathies with the fervent hope and prayer that he may yet find the strength to pull through what has been described as this 'critical' condition."

James is a lovely man and I would bet my last dollar he wasnt doing anything dodgy as a lot of people assume these days if you get caught up in gun crime.

I doubt that(although nothing would suprise me) Now if Big Bad James was giving one of them a shellacking you could see some clever Barrister getting the scentence reduced..going to the garden on the way out and blastin someone, well, Perry Mason couldnt get them off.

Does anyone know how Delaneys appeal went?

There's no doubt that in some respects elements of society have fallen apart, and there are a lot of people out there with very little regard for human life.

We live in a nasty, materalistic, short-sighted and desperate society, where money and status have become everything, and where doing an honest days work is now seen as something for mugs.

Once upon a time, people from the lower stratas of society were content to work hard, put food on the table, and a roof over their heads, now everyone is looking for a short cut, to get rich quick, at the expense of everyone else.

It's despicable, and these sorts of instances are just one more example of how badly distorted our society is.

Doubt it, whoever had the shooter (could be hard to prove), gets 7 years for possession, and then added GBH or manslaughter depending on what happens. Discharging a firearm also carries a charge.

I cannot see them getting less than 10-15 years.

Whe you come across these sort of people they will do whatever they need 2 do.

If you had asked these fellas to stop smoking you may have had a slap, they couldn't slap Oyebola, so they shot him.
