stallone never said appollo creed was based on ali. there were similarities....but creed landed some punches to the body, while there is no record of ali ever having done so.
stallone has openly said his idea came from wepner's stand against ali...and it grew into many millions made from some lousy movies (including the first, by the way, but that's off the topic.) i don't see why he can't toss a few bucks to wepner's way...hell, stallone probably spends a hundred grand a year on platform shoes.
i hope wepner and his lawyers stay the course. if nothing else, they might pick up a million as a settlement to avoid a nuisance court trial.
plus..let us not forget that the blood wepner shed wasn't put on by a studio makeup man.

Hey Terap was it Chuck Wepner or Richard Dunn who stepped on Ali's foot hit him and it was ruled a Knockdown.
I remember Chuck Wepner once fought Sonny, by then well past his prime, and recieved something like 200 stitch by the end of the fight.
I did not see the fight but remember reading about it many years ago.

wepner hit ali with a body punch as ali was backing away and slightly off balance. i don't remember if wepner stepped on his foot or not. it wasn't a damaging punch...but it WAS a punch and ali went down so it counted as an official knockdown. as best as a can recall, sonny banks, henry cooper and joe frazier are the other fighters who score knockdowns over ali. are there any i've missed?
I'm sorry, but that doesn't make sense...
Chuck Wepner isn't Italian...
He didn't last to the decision...
His wife didn't work in a petshop.
Just because he got an idea for a movie while at a boxing match entitles Wepner to NOTHING.
If someone gets the idea to jerkoff at the movie theatre, because Salma Hayek is naked.... Does Hayek deserve a portion of the jail sentence??

I think that's a little extreme but I get the point. I'm saying that if
Stalone's idea was not original but based on someone in real life,
in this case Wepner, he should be compensated. The rest of the movie
ie Pet shop dame Italian Stallion is just rhetoric filler for the movie.
As for the other guy in the movie what can I say.

Stallone has stated publicy in many interviews over the years that Wepner's stand against ali was his inspiration for the basic plot of rocky....meaning the less than mediocre and not -well-known boxer giving the champion a better fight than was expected, mostly through sheer gameness. if this is enough for wepner to get money from a lawsuit is something the lawyers will thrash out. my point is that regardless of the legal question, why can't stallone dip into his huge bank account that he accrued from making so many crap movies, most of which were box office duds and toss a few bucks wepner's way?
if he can't see his way to this simple act of generosity, how about a stallone and wepner 10 round boxing match....not on a hollywood sound stage, but in a real ring? stallone's left jab would just about make contact with wepner's kneecap, so maybe The Bleeder could agree to fight on bended knees, thus protecting that part of his body while at the same time making their heights even.

Don't laugh...I once watched Stallone's brother (I believe his name was Frank) box Geraldo Rivera on the Howard Stern show for the benefit of some charity...His brother won and both appeared to have some amateur experience...Jaclem wrote: if he can't see his way to this simple act of generosity, how about a stallone and wepner 10 round boxing match....not on a hollywood sound stage, but in a real ring?

Yes, Wepner stepped on his foot. A picture of Wepners foot on Ali's made the papers the following day...the TV announcer didn't catch it at the time and made a big deal about the 'powerful body punch', and that 'Ali better start taking Wepner seriously because he (Ali) suffered all his losses in March.' (Ali lost to Norton in March '73 & Frazier in March '71--Ali-Wepner was in March '75.)

Wepner does not deserve a dime.
He got paid for the fight, thats it.
Stallone based Rocky on an idea he got when watching a title fight with a ticket that he paid for.
Wepner is hoping Stallone will make an out of court settlement to go away.
Only in America.
Wepner should have taken the advice of Creed:
"Stay in school and use your brains"
"Be a Doctor, be a Lawyer, carry a leather briefcase"
"Dont go into sports for a profession, sports make you grunt and smell"
"See, be a thinker, not a stinker"

I think defending Holywood is admirable, but I happen not to
agree with that. Stallone writes a story based on Wepner's life experience, made and continues to make Millions and he doesn't deserve a dime. I never gave it much thought but it's possible it was Joe Frazier that provided the slaughterhouse scene. Good investigative work.
A Statue of Rocky sits at the steps in the city of Philadelphia. Only in America.
