Michael Gomez answers back

Post by bennie »

British super-featherweight champion Michael Gomez has picked up the gauntlet thrown down by Edinburgh's Alex Arthur by challenging the Scot to meet him in a rematch in the New Year.
Speaking from his Manchester home, Gomez, who scored a fifth-round win over Arthur last month, said: "I am fed up reading about Arthur screaming for a rematch while claiming that he was ill with a sore throat.
"Tell Arthur I don't believe him. If his throat was so sore why was he singing when he came into the ring against me at Meadowbank in October.
"I made a point of watching him and he was singing. Hardly the actions of a guy who is sick with a sore throat.
"Besides, Arthur has never shown me the respect I showed him immediately after I knocked him out.
"What did I do? I went over to him and told him he had fought a great fight.
"I even made a point of going to his dressing-room to make sure that he was okay after the knockout.
"But what does Arthur do in return? He goes to the press and television and bad-mouths my performance by claiming he wasn't 100 per cent fit.
"As far as I am concerned that is garbage - an excuse - so I am telling Arthur now - and I will be placing a challenge in Boxing News - I want him in January.
"I am so determined to make Arthur my next opponent that I am putting the world title shot promised to me by allegedly on hold until I beat up Alex Arthur again."
Added Gomez: "I've also read that Arthur is talking about having an international title bout before he meets me. Tell him not to worry. There is only one fight the Scottish and British public want to see and that's Arthur-Gomez II, so I am calling his bluff. The rest is up to him."

It's hard to find fault in anything Gomez is saying.
Man, that's a BIG fight (if it happens).

Excellent, I hope Gomez pounds him again. This will be a hell of a fight, I wish they could have it somewhere where I could actually get to see it without spending a fornicating fortune travelling and getting a hotel for the night.

Alex Arthur is just a prick.

Sorry, but with reasons as mentioned on a thread of mine not long ago, I have now developed a dislike for him.

Who can blame Gomez for coming out and saying this. Arthur has showed him zero respect by blaming the loss on a cold.

I maintain Arthur's ego is huge, and here again it's his ego that has triped Gomez into a public acceptance of his challenge.

This isn't a good fight for Arthur to be getting straight back into, and although I think Arthur has the beating of Gomez. I don't think fighting him as early as January will do him any favours.

Can't see Arthur going straight back into a rematch withouit some confidence building fights/ time to work on defence.

Having said that Arthur has been the one mouthing off since the fight so lets see if he has the balls to match his mouth.

I would love to see it on at the MEN and for the transplanted Irishman to give AAA another lesson in the art slipping and hooking.

It would be another great fight surely. But I can not see Frank Warrent letting it happen.

If Arthur loses again, you would pretty much have to say he would be finished as a prospect and i wonder if FW would be interested any more.

Also I believe AA would need one or two warm up fights to get some confidence back after the beating he took.
