The other Cuban he's defected with, Erislandy Lara, seems pretty good as well. He's an amateur world champion at welterweight. He's only 23 as well, so he could be another hot prospect to add to the welterweight ranks.

He is a great amateur but will the wear and tear of so many fights and the difficulties of transitioning to the pro game late take its toll on him, as it has so many other defectors?

Only time will tell I suppose.

Rigondeaux is the best Cuban at least since Felix Savon... better than Kindelan. He's sensational. It's frightening to think how good he can be as a pro.

i watched that last gamboa fight last night.

what a great talent he is.

brilliant speed and skills.

some of his moves reminded me of a young naz.

2008 after the Olympics could be a great Year for new talent coming from the Amateurs.

Expect a few more Cubans, along with Alexey Tischenko, Matvei Korobov, Roberto Cammarelle and aload of top Asian Amateurs as China goes crazy about boxing after Beijing.

Saw his name winning, or near the top of, tournaments for a good few years now: Is he just a big old lump or will he have a chance to do something as a pro?..

It's always exciting when we hear about this kind of thing. Casamayor and Juan Carlos Gomez have shown how things can be. Casa's been one of the outstanding super feathers over the years and Gomez should have been p4p ranked when he was the WBC cruiser champ.

But also you see the other side of it, like Jorge Luis Gonzalez, Ramon Garbay -lazy fat fighters. Even Gomez would go from lean and mean cruiser to complacent heavyweight. Some of them can get complacent and take their skills for granted.

Look out for the German based 11-0 Yoan Pablo Hernandez. He was on the Sylvester-Asikainen 2 undercard. 6' 4 southpaw cruiser. Looks like he could become Gomez II. Though it's early days, Enzo, Cunningham, Mormeck, Huck and co better watch out.

Anyone know how good that guy is? He's only had 3 fights but seems to be getting matched pretty toughly and Boxrec already rates him at #57

his last fight is on youtube and it makes for pretty poor viewing tbh.

but the opponent was a bit negative and solis won handily enuff.

he's still certainly one to keep an eye on.

You'd think there'd be some way where they take so much of the boxers purse so that they're not earning any more than the average person yet Cuba still gets to showcase their fighters on the bigger pro stage .

Arena Box-Promotion, which made big news by signing the three Cuban Olympic gold medalists who defected last December, has done it again. Two-time Olympic bantamweight gold medalist Guillermo Rigondeaux and world amatuer welterweight champion Erislandy Lara, who both defected from the Cuban team last week in Rio de Janeiro have signed five year deals with the Hamburg-based promotional company. Within the next four weeks, the two boxers will arrive in Hamburg. "I can't reveal where the athletes are currently, for understandable reasons," said Arena boss Ahmet Öner. "The fact is, however, is that it takes time to arrange the visas, as well as the residence and work permits. Of course we will present the young fighters to the public upon their arrival in Hamburg. I'm already looking forward already to that day."
