OSCAR-HATTON??

Post by Phenomenal-Nutrition »

By Mark Vester
Former six-division champion Oscar De La Hoya is still hinting at a possible bout with unbeaten Ricky Hatton in 2006. Hatton fights at the junior welterweight limit of 140-pounds and would have to move up to the full welter limit of 147 to fight De La Hoya.
In a recent interview with Setana Sports, De La Hoya said fans would be "ecstatic" if a fight was made between him and Hatton because the two of them will come to fight.
"I respect Ricky Hatton. He's a great fighter, he's a great guy. If that fight does get made, fans all over the world will be ecstatic. They will see a fight. Ricky Hatton comes to fight," De La Hoya said. "And that's what I love. If we ever do it, it will be a heck of a show, that's for sure."

Hatton, in a recent interview with Reuters, said a bout with De La Hoya would be an honor. He stills wants to face WBC welterweight champ Floyd Mayweather, Jr. in the fall, but is willing to make a fight with De La Hoya if the potential bout with Mayweather falls apart.
"It would be an honor to share a ring with a modern day legend like Oscar. It would be great to fight him in England in a soccer stadium or America. It would be some fight. It's those sort of fights that secure your legacy," Hatton said. "It's no secret that I also want to fight Floyd, hopefully in the autumn. He is regarded as the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world, but I feel I have the style to beat him. But if Floyd won't fight me maybe Oscar would. Oscar has never dodged anybody."

No 1 I particularly want to see. I don't see how a 5'6 66inch reach Hatton copes losing 5inches in height and 7inches in reach against Delahoya. Not to mention he'd probably be outweighed by a good 5-10lbs

Hatton stands a better chance against Mayweather than he does against this Mayweather left over imo. Although the money will surely be adequate compensation

Perhaps Oscar might get himself a part as the next Dr Who too as he will need some method of time travel to fulfill this ambition?

Perhaps this is a cut and paste of a desperately old story?

Ricky should do things on hs own terms. 147 pounds = a career gamble.

De La Hoya was saying as much in Vegas, where Hopkins was calling out Calzaghe for a fight at Yankee Stadium

with Harry on this one. Hatton raises the pace and Oscar can't be effective because he can't keep up.

It's hard to call...Hatton is a lot smaller, and Welterweight didn't seem to suit his style against Collazo (i.e. he wasn't as strong, as overwhealming)...however Oscar's struggle to make 147 could possibly make up for that later on if Hatton can set and stick to a hard pace against someone stronger than any of his previous opponents....

...not a fight i am too keen to see....I think Hatton should only come out of light welter for a Mayweather fight....I'm sure Billy Graham, and deep down Hatton would feel the same way, but with DLH we are talking mega bucks

I'd lose respect for Ricky if he takes this pointless De La Hoya fight.

You guys are retarded, Mayweather lost to Oscar on many people's scorecardss and you are writing him off, Hatton will be stopped if they fight as he will be there to be hit and is wide open to left hooks and right hands.

Hatton-De La Hoya surely would be a better fight than the last few messes Hatton was in. Hatton would surel come into shape for De La Hoya, and it would be competitive from both parties. But I do see Hatton's bod attack taking a toll, and his ferocity eventually winning over in the later rounds, pulling a decision. Hey I might be American, but Hatton's the man! :TU:

This is simply a cash injection for the GBP coffers. An annual event designed to help bank roll other fights.

There is always a year between fights to help you forget Oscar has won precious few of his last half dozen bouts.

Oscar is a legend, and I love him as a fighter but his current programme has the whiff of a senior tour.

I'd still be there for the fight, as seeing DLH in the flesh in England will be an amazing site to see. Not quite SRR but....

Fcuk Oscar (with all due respect), PBF, Cotto or Witter  are the fights I want to see Ricky in.
Oscar-Hatton is a BIG money fight, but its not high on the list in terms of boxing importance IMO

Yep Oscar needs to fight others in the senior tour like Trinidad, Winky, Mosley, Tyszu. He could even fight Forrest when Forrest regains the WBC belt.

if oscar beat pbf why the f.. did he look so pleased with himself after the result was announced. he did well for an old man against one of the best p4p in the world but he lost by a mile (split decision bollux) and hatton would punch his kidneys out of his aasss.

like other posters i dont want to see this fight. oscar bores me these days. its mayweather-hatton i want

i agree that mayweather-hatton would be a better fight..but to say mayweather beat oscar by a mile is a bit of a over statement dont you think? the fight was really close and maybe floyd won but it was by no preverbial mile

put it this way, it was never in doubt. the split decision was absolute garbage. i agree that oscar did well in the first half of the fight and showed how floyd could be beaten but he didnt have the gas nor the tools to nail him and it was all over as a contest and a spectacle soon after half way.
of course oscar can still hold his own with the top men but he has lost an awful lot of fights lately and in my view should retire and stop fooling the public that he has anything left to offer our sport inside the ropes.
a great champ in his day, those days are gone.

i agree with you in every way mate.

BUT the way i see it if Hatton were to flatten Oscar then his stock would increase by miwwions  and the way i look at it is ANYTHING to get Mayweather in the ring. That's Hatton's career defining fight against the BEST.

Yes, I do think Oscar's inactivity has cost him. I think had he been able to catch Floyd more regularly than Floyd would have been more worn and slower himself in the later stages.... and therefore easier to hit when Oscar tired. I still think he drew that fight though, and showed to me he still has "got it".

Having said that, I do think Oscar NEEDED some time out between the Hopkins and Mayorga bouts. He'd been fighting pretty regularly up untill after Hopkins, but after a sloppy display (where he looked fat) vs Sturm and then a KO defeat vs Hopkins he was begining to become stale.

He didn't need the year break between Mayorga and Mayweather fights. Having said that, even if he wasn't running his own promotional firm given his star status he could have only fitted in one bout between the two. As he is a PPV fighter, they say it takes 6 months to promote a "Match of the ages" like that. Hatton vs Tszyu was signed and sealed in January 2005, it didn't take place untill June (with no interim bouts for both). Even a routine fight for DLH would take months to arrange.

Lets not forget Hatton's hardly been mister busy recently... One fight in 2006.

Think Oscar would KO Hatton at 147. Ricky is too easy to hit, and Oscar can hit.

oscars not going to ko hatton. even at 147 ricky wins this. especially as your theory about how long it will take to get them in the ring says at least 9 months. by that time i believe ricky will be much closer to a natural step up to welter. his body wasnt ready last time (although he actually did pretty well). to be honest oscar de la hoya bores the pants off me as fighter these days.
