Punch-ups at the weigh-in

Are the fights at the weigh-ins becoming more frequent?
luckily over here they seem far and few between, but in the US it seems to be getting the norm, recently you had Hopkins kicking off at Wright. And even the Oqueno v Castillo weigh in ended up in a punchup , which led to security having to be in the ring between them before the 1st bell.
Then you have the king of it Mayorga kicking off against Vargas, which led to Vargas smacking Mayorga a couple of times. Mayorga should really be banned IMO, he's a shite boxer anyway.

I don't like to see the weigh ins or press conferences become a farce like this, it makes boxing look like wrestling. I'm sure the promoters could take more care in keeping the boxers seperated.

I think it all adds to the hype!

Sometimes things like this make the 'normal' news headlines (remember Lewis-Tyson) and generates a bit more interest.

Did Tyson v Lewis really need anymore hype?.
what happens when one fo the boxers gets injured and the fight is called off?
Also you have alot of fans at some of these weigh-ins , it can lead to crowd trouble.
I'm all for hype, let them slag each other off verbally, but its almost expected and encouraged in the US , for the conferences to end in a bundle.

On this subject, did you know that Tony Sibson was the only boxer to smack Marvin Hagler at a weigh-in. he punched him in the stomach.
Marvin was held back by his trainer who said "don't knock him out now, we won't get paid"

The best one was Herbie Hide and Michael Bentt in 1994. Great stuff. I’m sure Herbie grabbed Michael by the throat then tried to deck him on a balcony with patio furniture flying everywhere

John Ruiz was involved in a couple of skirmishes at the weigh-in. I'm sure Norman Stone was involved in a brawl with both Roy Jones' camp and Andrew Golota's.

I seem to remember bent in a puddle at one point and some bird trying to get between them... classic... no doubt that was fuelled by hate!

Hide-Bentt was classic. Bentt cussing out Hide as a "bloodclaat" and a "bumbaclaat" and some middle-aged woman in a tracksuit politely asking them to calm down.

Bowe-Donald was a good one. Totally uncalled for, which made it all the more funny.

As I recall he didn't hit the deck - he took the punches really quite well. But did look shaken up and bottled it from that point on.

That was it. I couldn't remember if it was Stone or Merkeson who ended up in hospital.

Well, I was just typing from memory from a video I used to have. Just saw the punch and Donald's head catapult off camera. Assumed he hit the deck. Whatever, it was a vicious punch on a completely unsuspecting opponent.

Bowe and Rock Newman were the 90s' Ruiz and Stone.

Donald never hit the deck They were the sort of shots that could have broken his jaw, but he took them and stayed on his feet. He looked more shocked than hurt which was quite remarkable really.

I don't mind a press conference brawl, as long as its not too staged (as Nard-Winky was).

Didn't Laila Ali and Christy Martin have a little brawl at their weigh-in? I'm sure Ali called Martin "Little Mama" and Martin went for her. I seem to remember them showing it on Sky Sports before the contest.

Surprised no one has mentioned Mark Kaylor & Errol Christie's pre-fight punch up. Their paid event was a cracker too.
