i cant really see anything tbh.... probably the best domestic heavy, definetly not International class.... I think he will soon be fed to an up and coming euro heavy, as a 'name' opponent.....

Bring a big name over from America, to try and get him higher in the World ratings.
Not sure Warren will invest in that now though, if ever anyway.
Virchis might fight him??........

Hi gents,

I think the best thing all-round for everyone is that Skelton goes-in with a huge European fighter, hopefully someone who sparks him senseless.

Then this vision of him fighting for a world title can stop, he can retire proudly looking at everything he accomplished in little time, with little experience, and treasure his British/Commonwealth titles for the rest of his life. I don't hate Skelton or anything, but I just want an end to this perrenial cirlce of "world title shot" crap which keeps rearing its ugly head.

If McCline pulls out I'd shove him in with Klitschko. Maybe Corrie Sanders would be a nice slug-out, or perhaps an eliminator fight with Valuev.

And not impossible, either. I saw him get utterly sparked in a round in K1, and it was from punches. His chin isn't the Ayers Rock some people think it is.

I feel for him. He's a good pro who has made the most of his ability. Warren has completely left him out to dry. He couldn't have got Matt a title shot if he'd kayoed Sprott in 1. Now he's supposedly got a cast iron excuse.

He doesn't punch hard, or clean enough to go beyond where he is, unless he fights a puffing windbag like Shannon Briggs.

My personal preference would be a fight with Sascha. I think it would make for a good crossroads fight and clash of styles. Dimitrenko is certainly skilled and able, but for me is over-cautious, and I suspect liable to be sparked when he reaches the higher levels. And despite his age, he needs to step up. We all know Skelton's limitations, but provided he came in to the ring with his come-forward, bullying style in ship-shape fashion, I think it would make for a decent fight. Skelton would, however, have to be at the top of his game. It would also be in Germany, which requires no further explanation.

From a more business-like perspective, another option may be the "regular" WBA title. No way is the WBA going to miss the trick of proclaiming Chagaev (or Ibragimov I suppose) the super champion, and getting a "regular" champion in there. 1.01 it will be Valuev after his comeback in whenever it is, perhaps against Ruiz, although he'd probably require the pretence of a W before then. Since Skelton isn't even ranked by the WBA (in fact the IBF have dropped him out too) I would suspect Skelton would need to fight Lyakhovich to make the frame for that. And although Lyakhovich might have some promotor ties or something now after his brief flirtation with a world title, he's the only guy I can think of who Frank could get Skelton in the UK

Skelton v Sprott was a bad combination - Skelton has been in many exciting bouts which seem to have been forgotten - I was dissapointed with Matts performance but it wasnt easy to look good against Sprott who just came to survive - All Matt wanted was a crack at a world title and now with his age against him that seems to have vanished completely - He just doesnt have the time to wait at 40 plus so he has probably gone as far as he can - For Gods sake lets hope Harrisons name doesnt get pulled out of the bag - That would be back tracking, and bloody pointless also - I suppose a decent Euro defence is the most likely scenario, and the best Matt can hope for.

I really think people should give Mat a bit more credit, He`s wallked into
boxing in his late thirties on the back of a kickboxing career where most of his fights were over three rounds.
He`se managed to stop his opponent in 18 of his 21 wins only 3 of whom had losing records going in.
As for getting sparked in K1 fight that was before he switched to boxing and there are some huge punchers on this circuit. A few pro boxers have assumed they could walk into K1 and beat people with their boxing ability and come unstook big time.
Surely if Mat is that limited even an unmotivated Williams ,Sprott,McDermott,Long,Francis etc could beat him or at least give him a count?

It can't have been easy for Skelton to motivate himself either. He'd already beaten Sprott pretty comprehensively and he was just going over stale ground. When you consider Warren has been promising him a title fight for (it must be) 2 years it's easy to see why he might not have been 100% up for the Sprott fight. Skelton's put in the hard yards for Frankie so it's about time he got his title fight.

If Skelton wants a big fight he will have to go overseas.

TV can't want him any more as a prime time boxer and who can blame FW if he doesn't want to invest big in him anymore.

skelton seemed like a force of nature when he was duffing up heavies as a novice....but since cleaning up the brit heavies theres no denying that Matt is simply awful to watch.

he looks like shrek

he fights very ugly

and is always honking snott out of his nose

he simply dsnt have the marketability of Amir Khan

but id like to see him take on Samil Sam or virchis

They should try and get him into line for a crack at Virchis but more than likely Harrison or Williams 3 will be next up or maybe a fall over job on a big fight undercard.

Inactivity, being 42 and Sprott being the wrong sort of opponent hasnt helped big Matt but come on why give him the Audley Harrison treatment - I agree our heavyweights do need to be busier but thats down to the promoter - Matt needs fights now as time is fast running out for him - I think he still has something to offer and they need to look to Europe or the States - FFS not Harrison or Williams, who wants that
