Worst card ever...

Post by Marlin »

Just when I had a bit of hope for Aussie cards after the Danny Green card I stumbled across this gem coming up in Melbourne:

Fatai Onikeke 21-2 v Jakkirt Suwunnalirt 5-5

Clinton Johnson 4-2-1 v Paz Viejo 4- 17

Heath Ellis 5-0 v Brian Fogarty 9-6

Daniel Iannazzo 2-0 v Tom Clarke 0-0

Nicholas Savidis Jr 1-0 v Paul Bourke 0-2

Steve Attard 0-0 v Jason Crowe 1-2

I know it can't be put in the same class as a PPV card or anything like that, but even so this is a truly woefull card. I have no interest in any of these fight...

I know what you mean. I knew that Green and Bryant's fights should be pretty good matchups, but the rest of the card was quality also (Kickett's was one-sided, but it was great to see a rising star in action).

I've never heard of any of the fighters in the card you posted!

Is it on Friday night fights, i.e. not PPV?

I think with a card like that, it should be PPV, except that when you order the fight, Foxtel pays you $39.95.

Onikeke is a prety good boxer, Suwunnalirt's record may be affected by losing fights to Ndou and Katsidis (Hey, someone has to lose!).

Have a look at some of the cards they have had in similar venues in America. Cliff Sarmardin had his last fight at the Bismarck Hotel in Chicago. He beat a character named Lee Cargle, who had lost about three times as many fights as he won (and is still boxing more than ten years later) in the main prelim to a WBF title fight.

The Knox Netball card may not be the best ever, but it is a long way from the worst ever.

It annoys me when we have good cards and fights that I really want to see, fox doesn't pick them up. A recent example was the Pittman v Gonzalez fight. Then you have cards like this and they get national exposure.

Any card that features Paz Viejo should be boycotted.

How do fox sports choose what cards they televise. Is it up to the promoter or does fox see the cards and say 'hey that'd be a good one, Australia should really see that'. I imagine it is the former, but it should be the latter (asuming the person saying it knows what they are talking about)

For anyone who did not watch it, it turned out a pretty good card, well matched fighters and a couple of spectacular KOs.

You do not have to have world champions for a good program.

Young Heath Ellis looks like a good prospect.

Pittman v Gonzalez was nothing to get excited about. It was a big middleweight boxing the ears of a super lightweigh. Gonzalez hardly landed a punch, we don't need these matches on fox.
Fox don't put any money into these shows thats why the fights are crap. I heard that Mordy used to get around $70k for his fight nights and now they are only getting something between 10 & $20k.

Come on mate it was a pretty puss card. I caught the replay on saturday, it may not have been as bad as I expected but how you can say it was a good, well matched, program is beyond me...

I found it entertaining. Maybe I was just looking at it from an old pug's viewpoint.
