He was having a go at Danny Williams for saying he bettered him in sparring, if I recall - although it was the Klitschko press conference.

I think it was between Castillo and either a sparring partner of Oquendo , or one of the other boxers on the bill.
It was something to do with the rivalry between Peurto Ricans and Cubans.

I must confess i secretely enjoy a press conference kick off, but i think if they happened all the time they would get too much. One every now and again is okay when there is genuine animosity is alright. Staged ones like Hopkins-Wright don't appeal, both admitted afterwards it was to sell tickets.

Lewis-Tyson was my favourite, absolute carnage, then Mike displayed characteristic class by inviting members of the press to 'speak into his microphone'

Bernard Hopkins running away from a room full of Puerto Ricans after dumping their flag on the floor has to be another press conference classic!

Yes, it was on ESPN - the presenter shit himself, understandably, but managed to act quite cool.

There's a quality story of a non-kick off...bear with me.

'In June 1979, Roberto Duran was slated to fight former world champion Carlos Palomino over ten rounds in New York. Palomino recounts a tale that gives an insight into an aspect of Duran that is often overlooked – his shrewdness. Duran was known for brazenly insulting and intimidating his opponents at press conferences. Unlike with many fighters, this was not simply a ticket selling move. Duran did it with genuine feeling...

'Palomino, well aware of Duran’s habitual trouble causing had told his trainer that if ‘El Animal’ started anything, he was not going to tolerate it and would retaliate. Expecting a fight before the fight, when Palomino got to the weigh-in, Duran walked up to him, shook his hand, told him he has a great fighter and asked for an autographed picture for his kid. “I was all fired up waiting for him to start trouble, and that just threw me back. It was reverse psychology and it worked,” said Palomino.

'It didn’t take long for Duran to revert to type. At the end of the last round of a contest Duran dominated, he told Palomino: “Quit. You don’t have it any more.”'

On the subject of Duran, another story that comes to mind is when he was training for a fight with Pipino Cuevas… I cant remember the exact details but its something along the lines of…. Duran held a training session and there were a number fans in attendance, including women, kids etc… There was one guy in amongst it all who seemed intent on winding Duran up… As Duran continued to work away in front of the audience the guy was crying out words to the effect of “Cuevas to win… Pipino’s gonna knock you out” etc…. Finally, Duran could take it no more and snapped – As he jumped up onto the ropes in the corner, he wipped down his shorts, grabbed his balls and cried out “Pipino Cuevas can suck my c0ck!”
