If you want to go solely off DLH-Hatton comparisions

DLH-Hatton
Height 5-11 5'6
Reach 72 66
Punches Per Fight 580 750

Power, Size and Strength you'd give to DLH just based on the fact he comes in the ring at a solid 160lbs++Defense you'd also have to say DLH is better at than Hatton mainly based on

Workrate, Stamina and relentless pressure are all things Hatton does better. Speed/Footwork debatable

So no Hatton isn't a better opponent but he does give a style challenge - can Mayweather keep up with him. Mayweather has fought Chavez who threw 100punches a round and Castillo who sometimes threw 75punches a round. So hes faced similar pressure just not from as strong a man as Hatton (baring Delahoya who can't pressure for a whole fight)

Sounds promising, I'll wait to see if it is announced officially before I start looking at flights to Vegas.

collazo throws more punches than mayweather does these days.

it's all singles and doubles with floyd these days.

collazo threw em in three's and four's quite often. :box:

no way is mayweather busting hatton up.

there's a good chance he outboxes hatton.

but not bust him up.

6 weeks to move up 7lbs wasn't enough?

He could of just dried out less too as he goes Into the ring as heavy as a middle.

collazo's style was the main issue i thought.

i still thought hatton won though.

people often forget that hatton laid an awful lot of leather on collazo as well. :box: hatton easily gave as good as he got. :TU:

floyd won that fight.

at the very worst it was 6-2 oscar after 8 rds.

then floyd wins the last 4.

no way does oscar win the 12th.

DLH was over 35 and I had had him winning until he gassed out. Also I think DLH punch resistance not as good due to his age.I suppose same can be argued about Castillo but Ricky did crack four of his ribs and Mayweather couldnt put a dent in him.People keep going on about Collazo but forget that 1st time RH went up in weight and beat a good champ.
This fight will be about workrate and pressure from Ricky.Once FM finds out how tough Ricky is he will get back on his unicycle as he did with Baldimir and run the whole fight!
When prepared properly Ricky is awesome!

Who says Hatton has left Witter behind??? :D

Nah Oscar Drew the 12th giving him the win.....still, not really the performance of a man on the par of Leonard! Thats why Mayweather needs Hatton and why Hatton has at least a 40% chance

If I was Hatton and the fight was at welter I'd try to get to within a few lbs of the light welter limit for the weigh-in. I don't think he needs the extra weight to perform at his best - if anything, going on the Collazo fight, it's a hindrance to him. He should prepare as he usually prepares and come into the ring around the usual weight, which I'm guessing is above welter anyway.

agreed,I thought that he only needs to put on a couple of pounds and keep the speed advantage as he punches quite hard anyway.

He only weighs 140 because hes drained, he weighs 148-155 on fight night, why would he drain to near 140, weakening himself in the process and fight at 148/155 or whatever he weighs on fight night?

Collazo gave him problems because he was 3inches taller and 7inches more reach and was faster and slicker than anyone else Hattons fought. Hatton wasn't at his very best but he wasn't that far away from his best either

It doesn't work like that.
How doesn't It?

Doesn't Hatton walk Into the ring at about 11st 2 or 4lbs? He could of dried out less water weight surely and just stuck to the training diet he already has?

Well, firstly DLH had just turned 34 and not "over 35" as you said. Yes, I had him winning the fight till he gassed and scored the fight a draw anyway. However, this is Oscar De La Hoya - a man much bigger than Floyd/Ricky and, believe or not, isn't that bad a fighter himself.

Was his chin in decline, maybe... hard to say. He certainly took clean head shots from the bigger/stronger Hopkins well enough. I personally don't think DLH has had a hard enough career for his chin to start weakening... hand speed and stamina maybe, but not chin.

Secondly, since when was Collazo ever classed as a good champion. I tell you when, AFTER running Ricky close. He was never considered anything more than a paper champion before, and after Mosley SCHOOLED him that where he remains now.

Kostya WAS over 35 when he fought Ricky, 35 and inactive.... Kostya is/was a great fighter... but people tend to forget on that great night, that Kostya was winning the fight CLEARLY untill he gassed also, sometimes outclassing Ricky. Oscar never outclassed Floyd.

So I don't think the fact that DLH ran Floyd to the wire means that much.... DLH is an all time great in his own right and for me showed that a 1997 version of DLH at 140 would have beaten the 2007 version of Floyd. However, that doesn't mean that Floyd is useless or cannot be alot better than Ricky.

I don't think he's draining himself to reach light welter, personally. He looked as fit as a butcher's dog against Castillo and I fear that if he weighed in close to welter against Mayweather he would balloon up before fight time and lose some of his speed and stamina. I'm not saying he has to weigh in at 140, obviously, but if I were him I wouldn't come in much over 145. He doesn't need to be bigger for the fight, he needs to be as fit as possible without being drained.

Floyd Mayweather is an exceptional fighter in the pound for pound rankings where other fighters precence in those rankings is sometimes hotly disputed. I really do not think anyone will dispute Mayweather is the Number 1 fighter although sometimes he is not that exciting to watch.

Hatton v Mayweather, who is going to win? Hatton should not move up a weight yet another statement I do not think a lot of knowledgable fight fans will dispute. Mayweather is strong at Light Middleweight but a lot of people say he is best at Welterweight where he carries a lot more punch power.

In conclusion, Hatton's exceptional talents get ever so slightly weaker when he steps up a weight. Mayweather's exceptional talents get stronger when he fights at Welterweight. Therein lies the winner of the fight.

My card had Hatton one round up at the time of the stoppage, with Hatton winning 3 on the Spin. On my card Kostya won 5 on the Spin... THAT was what I meant. Hatton made an excellent start, Kostya controlled the mid stages and Hatton came on in the end.

I know Boxing scoring is subjective but I would find it hard for KT to win 5 rounds on the bounce...Hattons workrate was awsome

Terry D wrote:On a different note Graham has hankered after this fight for the past year and a half. They held firm in the face of a lot of criticism around Collazo/Urango but the long-term game was to get Mayweather.

Beating Tszyu, Mayweather beat Gatti but the time was not right. Mayweather moved up so Hatton moved-up and then it looked remote with Oscar the stand-in but it has come off and all it took was to call Floyd boring.

The Hatton team stayed resolute and Billy in particular has said all along that in his mind the fight would happen, from the first day I met him he said this so it shows that if you stay resolute you can get what you want.

They've been working on a number of scenarios for the fight and they feel that beneath all the bluster Floyd is a man and a fighter so the fight will be very good.

Floyd is a fighter right to the soles of his boots in many ways so he will want to beat Hatton in every department including fighting.

Could be a mini-classic if the styles gel.

Hatton could win a mauling, occasionally ugly SD here or Floyd by TKO (cuts or too many clean shots landing).

Someone, maybe on another forum, said Hatton has never taken on any one as good or dangerous as Floyd. Kostya was dangerous FFS.
Kostya was dangerous, Castillo was dangerous... I don't think anyone can dispute this. As dangerous as Floyd though? I'm afraid I agree with that poster.

Of course Mayweather is exceptional but Hatton will bring tons of pressure and intensity which Floyd won't like. Hatton will not fade like DLH did after a promising start. It's an intriguing one all right.

Its a great fight in prospect with all sorts of possibilities including maybe a KO - If there is a KO, my money is on Hatton delivering it - Both men have terrific workrate so if it went to the scorecards it would be very close with Mayweather most likely ahead - FM is great on the backfoot so Hatton comming forward all the time is no problem and Hatton could tire late on trying to catch him - You wont see a toe to toe which would suit Ricky best - Ricky needs a tear up IMO to beat Mayweather who seems to be able to outbox everyone - If Ricky can hurt FM with body punches and slow him down the fight is Rickys but if he cant then you have to say Mayweather would have the edge and would likely win - Hatton has to blast his way in and try to overwhelm Mayweather, playing chess with the grandmaster would be fatal - Billy Graham will probably tell Ricky, nothing fancy just do what you usually do but better - Ricky just has to be relentless and go for the body as he usually does anyway - Hattons body punches can stop anyone so dont be surprised to see Mayweather down and winded, because if Hatton has a gameplan its to do just that.
