Also remember Mayweather, Cotto and Hatton all removed themselves from Harris mandatory position so they wouldn't have to face Harris. You can argue this is to do with Harris been a lower level name or him being hard to do business with but the bottom line is Harris is dangerous. Harris is a very dangerous customer and is a massive puncher when he lands as KOs of Hurtado and Ukral testify too. He did better numbers on those too than Tyszu and Cotto couldthepocketrocket wrote:Been a few years though...granted Harris' record is very good, I just didnt see anything against Lazcano that said to me that he wasnt past peak..
Still, a great opponent for Witter, bona fide world class...
Junior Witter has to win this fight. Do not go overboard if he does, for fucks sake Vivian Harris whilst he clearly he is a good fighter and so he should be fighting for the WBC champion, he is certainly is not bone fide world class and if you think he is, then you know little about boxing.
Good fight yes of course it is. But if you say that, in world class terms how good is Junior Witter.

High risk low reward means your a good fighter, Cotto prefered to go after Pinto, Mayweather after Brussels/Gatti, Hatton after Vilches. All much worse fighters. He didn't price himself out against Mayweather/Cottoglahn wrote:Come on now, nobody ducked Harris purely because he was such a good fighters. They ducked him because he was a high risk and low reward fighter, and because he kept pricing himself out of big fights.

Not world class? Hes easily top3 at 140lbs with an impressive resume, is that not world class?Albert wrote:Vivian Harris is certainly is not bone fide world class and if you think he is, then you know little about boxing.

Quite honestly I dont see Witter winning - Harris will be too much for him and Witter wont get the chance to unload - 12 rounds seems to be the most likely with Harris getting the points decision - Witter was exciting and looked good on his way up but now he has to mix with the top names and his open style will let him down - Not sure if Witter is in decline, I just think he has reached the level where KOing people is that much harder to do - He has to win on points and against Harris that wont be easy - The fight would have been bigger in the States, even if Witter did win I cant see it turning him into a big name.
EASILY top 3? I'm sure the likes of Malignaggi, Witter, Hatton, Torres, Castillo might argue otherwise.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:Not world class? Surely the top 3 is Hatton, Witter, Malignaggi.

Malignaggis sole victory is Ndou, Harris CV and the way he looks on film puts him way above Malignaggi. Whats Torres done other than get a gift against Artounsis? Castillos got a gift of sorts against Ndoujo and got his ribs broke against Hatton, hardly much to talk about at 140.stujones wrote:EASILY top 3? The venue doesn't matter one iota to me, but have you been to the Doncatser Dome??Albert wrote:A fight for the WBC World Light Welterweight title in Doncaster Dome does not enthuse me a lot. Sorry Doncaster and South Yorkshire fans you might be happy with it.
This is a BIG fight between probably the #2 and #3 in the division, its pretty much a 50-50 between 2 very experienced operators. I don't think either are much past their peak
Bring on Malignaggi after Harris gets KTFO.......as I see Hatton has another convenient excuse not to fight Witter
Cotto would have sparked Harris, no shame in losing a tight decision.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:But Malignaggi lost only last year, the Harris fluke loss was 2 years ago.
Not sure how the Maussa lose could be described as a fluke... ill preparation yes, but fluke no. What was it a 7th round KO, so no lack of warm up and it wasn't exactly a lucky punch with his eyes shut.

Cotto might have got mauled by Harris at 140, lets not forget how Torres had him all but out. Harris was not himself in the Maussa loss. Anyway that a side Malignaggi has 1 good win, Harris has plenty of good wins and is more proven.stujones wrote:Cotto would have sparked Harris, no shame in losing a tight decision.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:But Malignaggi lost only last year, the Harris fluke loss was 2 years ago.

I honestly thought many of you lot knew all there was to know about boxing. It seems I am wrong. Whatever angle you look from Harris is past his best. Yes he has had some terrific fights but he is certainly not in the top part of the Light Welterweight division.
Regardless of the fitness of Harris he still should have dealt with Maussa instead he was given a fairly sound beating. Since that fight, to put him up there with the very best Light Welterweights and give him a sound chance of winning, who has he beaten.

Yes I have to agree when you use the argument that you have. But when the winner is announced, whoever it is lets not go overboard when we have acknolwedged the frailities in both fighters!!!!!!!!!!!!Terry D wrote:Witter is past his best also. Or so it would seem, as with Harris.
That is what makes this fight interesting to us all. There are intangibles.

The winner will be rightfully no2 at 140lbs, and no1 if Hatton stays at 147. Thats undebatableTerry D wrote:This is modern day boxing remember Albert, the winner will be declared the greatest of all times for a day or twoAlbert wrote:Yes I have to agree when you use the argument that you have. Carlos Maussa lost to Manuel Garncia, who lost to Timothy Bradley.
Bradley is shaping up to be a very decent fighter and beat Garncia far more comfortably than Jaun Lazcano... who gave Harris a close one. Most thought Garncia beat Lazcano, Bradley shut him out.
Fightnews' rankings is usually pretty decent... and this is a match between the #4 and #12 ranked fighters. Admitedly, Harris might be up to #11 cause of the Mbaye defeat.
