Rees vs Khan smart business move?
I chould be wrong but with all the talk about Amir Khan wanting to fight for a world title before is 21st and Franky W saying he wont fight for it he aint ready but with Gavin Rees just winning the world title as this not been a smart business move all along hoping that Rees would win the title and then soon a fight will be made by Franky so khan fights Rees for the title i no peoeple will say no thats not what hes doing but it wouldnt suprise me one little bit if thats the case beacuse its a fight Amir would win in my eyes and would give him is WBA world title and be a smart move well its what i think any way and wouldnt suprise me if a fight is made between the to soon
Allegedly just doesn't want Khan fighting for a world title any time soon, so I doubt he'll match Khan with Rees, because even if Khan won he'd still have to defend the title against tough opposition.
It will be interesting to see what happens when it gets close to Khan's birthday though. Will he swallow his pride and accept he's not going to be the youngest British world champ, or will there be friction between him and Allegedly?

Not a smart move.
Styles make fights and I actually think Khan would give Rees a boxing lesson. But as fans just occasionally we should think outside of the box.
If Khan beat Rees then he is on the world level and there is only one way, and that downwards, Khan theoretically would then have to start facing world class opponents not some unknown from Africa for his commonwealth title.
Before anyone says am I downing Rees, yes I am, bloody good luck to him for winning his title, one in which he will not keep for very long if the WBA's governing body force the appropriate opponents on Rees. Fantastic accomplishment but he is certainly not a world class boxer and has done nothing to prove it.
As for Khan and Rees, on the surface it seems the logical route, but it would put Khan up there even more to be shot and clearly the other week showed he was not ready for it.

The problem is,Khan would give Rees a beating in my opinion, then he is stuck with a world title belt,at a weight above anything he has faced so far,and will have genuine top level fighters coming after him.
Let Khan develop.
Why the major rush?
Bring him along nicely, and by his 20th fight,he could be ready to fight for a light welter world title of some sort by his 20th fight.
Problem there though is,I have no doubt a fighter of much higher calibre than Rees will be the owner of the aforementioned title

Only teasing, Khan-Rees makes sense for fulfilling Khan's "prophecy" but Warren probably wants him to continue selling out shows and making money...oops i mean developing, sorry!

i think warren should go for it.
he ain't gonna get a better chance to win a world title than this.
and be the youngest from this country to do it.
if he wins he doesn't have to be rushed.
he's in a fairly mediocre division at the moment on the world scene and there are plenty of below par challengers to choose from.

Kotelnik could take maybe a step aside money, Khan wins... vacates and goes back down to Lightweight.thepocketrocket wrote:Kotelnik has first shot...
Maybe we are all writing off Rees' chances, but I think the reality of it is that Warren should treat this WBA title as a WBU one. Rees isn't going to beat Kotelnik... and I doubt Warren would want to sign up Kotelnik. So its not going to be in his hands for long. Give Khan the shot, and then let him continue to learn as a Lightweight.
So if Rees fights on the November card, who will his opponent be? It's a bit tricky isn't it? You have one of the least regarded major belt holders in all of boxing, and everyone wants a crack at him now. You want to maximize his earning potential, but you can't feel too confident even putting him up against the weakest entrant in the top 15.
Given his KO record, I'll guess Cesar Cuenca, although it would not likely be an entertaining fight either. Maybe Salita, who is beatable and has a big following in New York? Or just wait and see who gets the #15 hot seat in the next WBA rankings?

Whilst credit is due to Rees for beating M'Baye, I agree with those saying he can't beat Kotelnik. Maybe a sort of gentleman's agreement could be reached whereby Warren lets Rees go to Germany to fight Kotelnik, in return for a worth-my-while sweetner, like getting Skelton a cushy number, or something else

yeah kotelnik is nothing special.Twisted Transistor wrote:I'd actually give him a chance against Kotelnik too.
The guy gives away the early rounds and relies on covering up too much and pressuring.
Rees Is faster than Kotelnik who I don't really rate.
Kotelnik struggled with M'Baye and lost to him.
a slow plodding euro level fighter.
rees's flurrying could outscore him.
witter barely beat him.
and he still thinks he could beat ricky.

Im not calling Kotelnik the new Miguel Cotto but he beats Rees...
Rees came forward in a straight line and after 3 rounds waited ages between flurries, he was gassed bu Mbaye never pressed him. methinks Kotelnik wont let him work at his own pace, he will break him down..
Saying if Kotelnik pushed Witter he must be then new JCC as Witter is unbeatable!!

I thought Witter's problem was stamina.
Hatton doesn't like fighters who box or southpaws like Witter though. :P
