I'd like to update his birth date, His birth date was February 14th 1910. Not January 1st 1910 as you guys have down in your records. My source of this information is from grandmother whom is his eldest daughter, Mary Louise Romero
I'd also like to say thanks for listing my Great,Great Grandfather, I've spent many years trying to find available records of his fights. My family doesn't actually have any of his paper records anymore, Especially now that the San Diego Coliseum is now a Jerome's furniture store its very hard to find any information on him and his fights.
I'm also glad that I know have proof that he did fight Archie Moore, We had always told the story and I didn't know for sure if it was true but I know now for a fact it was.
Please feel free to contact me for any further information at my e-mail address [email protected]
Johnny "Bandit" Romero
The Jan 1 date of birth was entered because his exact date of birth for that year was unknown by the BoxRec Editor who entered that information. Thank you for giving us the exact date. Do you have anything else you can share with us--such as a "fight photo," manager and/or trainer's name, height, date of death, or a biographical summary that we can include in his BoxRec Wiki page?
I am working with my grandmother to gather all the information u asked about. We have to call his brother to find out his trainers & managers names. My grandmother has his death certificate somewhere with his exact date of death but the year he died was in 1978. And his height was 5 feet 10inches.
I'd also like to say that he's my great grandfather not my great, great grandfather. I got excited about finding this information and typed entirely too fast lol

Re: Johnny "Bandit" Romero
Poncho- Your great-grandfather, Johnny "Bandit" Romero,
was one of the best-known fighters from San Diego during
his day and went on to have quite a career. I think that I
can say that everyone on BoxRec would appreciate any
information in regards to your great-grandfather.
