new weight's
ive seen that the board of control are bringing a new weight in (super fly)i was thinking would it be a good idea to bring a (super cruiserweight) of say 15st and go back and use the old cruiserweight of 13st 8lbs i know the wbu have a super cruiserweight but the board dont reconise it what do you think ![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
I think boxing has too many weight divisions as it is. One more just makes me roll my eyes. I sympathise with the plight of those that are too big for cruiserweright but too small for heavyweight but that's the way it is. I'm already very sceptical of the super flyweight division. There isn't too much depth in the two divisions surrounding it as it is.

There are too many weight divisions already in place, never mind bringing more into the equation. The days of only eight weight categories are long gone, never to return.
What if the boxing officials scaled down the weights to just eight? What do you think the positives & negatives would be of this decision?

I think the number of weight divisions should be reduced. Ideally to the original 8. I'd be open to the idea of upping the weight spans for each category like UFC has done to bring them up to date. This is only if it seems that they'd be too few fighters at the lowest end and too much size disparity at the upper end.
The sanctioning bodies won't like it but i don't see they have that much pull anyway they don't really give anything in return for their fees.
The result would be more fighters falling into the same weight classes meaning lots more potential fights and less weight hopping bollocks.

yes i agree but people are getting bigger so wouldn't it be better to split the weights at the higher end of the scale i mean heavyweights now are well over 17st where in the 50s & 60s they were just over the cruiserweight limit i dont think that giving away 2st is a fair fight also i if anything they should tidy up the lower end of the weights and get rid of say (lt fly, super bantam, super feather, light welter)??????gheeme wrote:Reducing the number of divisions returns the prestige back to being a world champion.
It's occured to me that this would also make boxing safer. At the moment boxers can weight drain themselves down 2 weight divisions. The wider gaps should make them hard to impossible to cross.
