Calzaghe - Kessler Predictions !!!!
I don't thnk we do see biased refereeing. Look at the Mike McCallum-Carl Jones fight - Jones was taking a one sided beating - even though he was never shaken the ref pulled a plug on it.
British refs can jump in too early, but I don't think it's anything to do with bias. Terry O'Connor did it twice within 2 or 3 weeks. Froch stopping Taevosyan and Calzaghe stopping Manfredo. He didn't do the winners a favor - they were easily winning. He actually spoiled a decent conclusion.

I see Kessler not liking Joe's pressure, speed and workrate, Kessler beat Andrade easily but he didn't do much except cover when pressured.nickd wrote:Tough fight to pick, Kessler will be Calzaghe's toughest test I can't believe how many people are quick to dismiss his chances.
I can;t believe how people use Kessler's jab mainly as to why he will be tough for Joe. All he does Is step In and out of range jabbing or a 1, 2 and covering up , but leaving his body open.
Some are even using Mundine as an example just because Mundine has fast hands.
Joe has a great southpaw jab and fast pressure and agression that could put Kessler on the backfoot where Mikkel ain't at his best.
And Kessler has a peach of a straight right hand - renowned as Calzaghe's achilles heel. And Calzaghe is no spring chicken. I think it's a close fight and both have a good chance in fact I am finding it hard to split them at this point. Hopefully that will make for an excellent fight.Twisted Transistor wrote:I see Kessler not liking Joe's pressure, speed and workrate, Kessler beat Andrade easily but he didn't do much except cover when pressured.nickd wrote:Tough fight to pick, Kessler will be Calzaghe's toughest test I can't believe how many people are quick to dismiss his chances.

Age looks like a number when It comes to Joe though, he's still got very quick mobility and not been damaged enough to have wear and tear, except for his hands.
Joe does get hit by right hands but has the chin and conditioning to take them well. They seemed to land when there at close quarters with Joe too like with Bika.

I ain't totally discounting It, It just seems that Joe stays In decent condition and doesn't ruin his body Inbetween fights too much like most fighters do to hit It at a young age like 35.nickd wrote:And at Calzaghe's age he could hit the downslide at any time. You can't just totally discount someone hitting their mid 30s that makes no sense especially a fighter who relies on speed and volume so much.
He could hit the downslide but people thought he already did before Lacy.

Yes O'Connor is the Mahatma Gandhi of professional refereeing. I agree that in both cases he robbed the victors of emphatic victories, and spoilt the party for them. Nice of him to think of the loser, but it is boxing after all, not dressage.Autobarn wrote:I don't thnk we do see biased refereeing. Similar but a more accomplished champion than Woodhall and not quite as one handed - Woodhall's right hand was never the same after the shoulder injury. Kessler is a far tougher test than Woodhall IMO and Calzaghe is that much older which evens things up. Really looking forward to this one.101boxing wrote:or the same mould as woodhall? tall, strong, awkward, big reach.bugs wrote:Kessler does look like the fighter Viet was supposed to be
Where the fight takes place is paramount.
On the inside Calzaghe has his best shot.
Kessler is good at keeping fights on the outside.
Kesslers jab is a strong weapon here.
Calzaghe likes the busy in the trenches fight.
If Kessler wins the battle of the jabs, is aggressive enough overall and keeps the fight under control.
Only judges and cuts will take it away from Kessler I would have thought.
Jab,control and timely agression is the key for Kessler.
War is Calzaghe's best weapon as I see it.
This is the biggest fight of the year hands down.
It is a pure 50/50 between the best fighters in the division and 2 top 10 pound for pound boxers.
There should be way more threads on the styles of these two boxers kicking around the forum than there actually are.
This fight sells itself.
Well done to those that made this happen

Calzaghe and Kessler are in the same division.Carbo wrote:Sure you're not talking about Mayweather -- Hatton? Kessler top ten P4P? I think notMustpha Rod Upyorpoopa wrote: It is a pure 50/50 between the best fighters in the division and 2 top 10 pound for pound boxers.

Hatton and Mayweather are not.
Ask most people who will win a Mayweather v Hatton fight ..at least 85% will say Mayweather if not higher.
Ask people who will win a Kessler v Calzaghe fight...my guess at worst is a 60-40 split.
Mikkel Kessler not a P4P fighter, his credentials are better than Joe Calzaghe or even.
Look at the opponents.
Hatton is taking a payday.
I don't blame him.
But if both fights had the same coverage and honesty.
Hatton would on the undercard of a monumental fight such as Calzaghe and Kessler.
I can't believe some reports of Calaghe-Manfredo, that the ref was doing him a favour because Manfredo was defending himself so well, and was going to start hitting him with right hand leads...jamesmcdonnell wrote:Yes O'Connor is the Mahatma Gandhi of professional refereeing. Kessler is a p4p level fighter. He's been dominant in world class fights every time, for 4 years. He has the best jab around. He can handle different styles. If he was American, he would be totally respected. Lesser fighters like Tarver ("the next Spinks") and Glen Johnson ("the next Qawi") have been hyped as future greats, given unworthy p4p rankings and then found out in pathetic excuses for American hype.
Johnson was even given 2004 fighter of the year, when Lorenzo Parra pissed all over his achievements.
Even Winky gets hailed as a modern day legend - we've seen what happens when he doesn't have the luxury of a smaller opponent. He's just a plodder with a fancy defense.
Kessler would mop the floor with all three of them.
Evander, you're full of it, & blatantly want the British fighters to lose. You come on here to be productive, don't you? Does anyone care how many ppl think Calzaghe and Hatton are going to win their fights? How can you expect that to be a gauge of anything.

How will Kessler's technique hold hup when he has a half a second less to search for the right punch and by the time he's found it, Calzaghe has thrown six of his fast handed flurries?
How will Calzaghe cope with a technical boxer, who throws just the kind of straight shots that I have thought could expose the still raw looking Calzaghe? How will Joe cope with a boxer when historically he's dominated men who come to him and struggled with those cute enough to throw with power off the back foot?
I don't know, it's a great fight -- a genuine 50-50 -- but right now I just favour Calzghe, unless he suddenly starts slipping. Just favour him, mind you.
