I dont think the difference over 3 or 4 rounds would make a difference between pro or amateur, and think top amateurs, Cubans and Russians could hold there own against top Pros, over a short fight.

Some of those amateurs have been training longer and harder than the pros, probaly even had more rounds than a pro. Dont live the lifestyle that a pro lives.

I always wonderd what would have happend if the Muhammad Ali Vs Teofilo Stevenson fight had ever come off?

khan was another thing all together, the last fight he had was a farce with Mario. If Khan had drawn him in the 1st round of the Olympics, we wouldnt even know who Amir Khan is!

I agree.

Like any sport Boxing always needs a steady flow of fresh, new and hopefully exciting 'blood'. Hopefully if they fight out of Germany then fight fans across Europe can follow their careers on EUROSPORT TV.

There may be some exciting times ahead.

Rigondeaux und Lara arrested!
The professional careers of Cuban boxing stars Guillermo Rigondeaux and Erislandy Lara may have come to an end before they even started. Two-time Olympic champion Rigondeaux and reigning welterweight world amateur champion Lara were waiting for their German visas at a secret place in Brazil when police arrested them. The two Cubans defected from their national team during the Pan American Games. Because they didn't have their passports with them, police has to figure out their identities. The consequences are not clear yet. Most probably Rigondeaux and Lara have to return to Cuba. Arena-CEO Ahmet Öner: “Of course, that’s not good news at all but I am not very shocked. After all the fuss Fidel Castro has made about the whole thing their was always a chance of something like that happening. I just hope that those guys get treated fair and that Fidel stops persecuting their friends and families in Cuba. We are in contact with the Brazilian administration. Maybe there is still a chance for Rigondeaux and Lara to come to Hamburg.”

I really hope Guillermo Rigondeaux and Erislandy Lara can get all this sorted out but it doesn't look good at the moment.

I think they could both make an exciting impact on the professional scene and if they want to leave Cuba they should be allowed to do so. They are leaving for a positive reason after all.

If their visa's/travel documents are not valid they can be refused entry to other countries and sent back to Cuba.

Unless they claim asylum of course.

They've gotta get there first. I'd be surprised if Brazil aleft them to Castro's hounds, because they don't have the same kind of left wing government that Venezuela or Peru do -- its more liberal left -- but even so, it's a worry. They would have to get to Germany or America first. Right now, they seem a long way from that.
