Don't start me on Setanta. I've had it for 18 months. I pay more for it than the current offer, which is annoying.
What's even more annoying is that in spite of paying 50% more than current advertised prices it's not been working since last week. I can get Setanta Ireland and the free crap still, but not the pay crap. 3 times I've rung up...first two times could hardly hear them for the cacophony in the background of their call centre. The first bloke said he'd re-send the signal but after 1/2 hour it still didn't work, so I rang again and they tried to blame it on the weather (bit silly to try that one with me - I know about bad weather and telly reception!) and told me to wait a few hours (when the game I was half-interested in would have been finished!).
Anyway, 5 days later, and it still doesn't work. So I rang again. Another 15 mins on hold telling me about the great sport I have access too. Turns out they sent the wrong signal (what!!??) and I have to wait 4 more hours. Three hours later still doesn't work.
I'm not overly impressed. I'd like to see the Morales fight though. And Caley Thistle tomorrow.

I've had numerous problems with tv and Broadband providers. The most effective remedy I have found is to call them up and say something along the lines of the following:dandantheweatherman wrote:Don't start me on Setanta. I've had it for 18 months. Could you turn my service on. If you do not provide me with the service that I am contractually entitled to under the terms of my agreement with Setanta, I will have no choice but to report the matter to my local trading standards office, as you are failing to provide a service that you have contractually committed to.
Make sure you get a confirmed time that the service will be restored and a call reference (and possibly a name). Insist that if the service is not in place by the stated time, then you will make a return call to get a detailed explanation as to why they have, in effect, lied to you. Also make it clear that given your lack of service, you don't understand why you should be charged, especially given the cost of the calls. They will usually give you some kind of credit on your next bill.
The key is to be firm, but never ever, abusive.
The thing is, I've had zero problems. Not with Hopkins-Eastman, Byrd-Klitschko 2, or any of the June fights this year. One person says I had problems in a long post, and it puts everyone off. Scare 'em away.
I have to pay £15, not £10, but that's how it is with Virgin. Bloody Branson, bloody Sky-Virgin warfare, etc etc. If I had the Sky (rather than Telewest, now Virgin) package I would not have been able to get Eurosport, not with the offers that were around when I started up in mid/late 2004.
It's bloody horrible when you have cable problems. Definitely, the ppl who provide the service arealmost always genuinely unhelpful. Luckily, I don't have problems, not since the gardener accidentally clipped the cable!

not sure how he's going to do it. Diaz is a busy fighter and will be bigger than anyone Morales faced. But I'm staying up to find out.Carbo wrote:Morales is my favouite fighter. I really would rather he retired, but I want so much, so much for him to go out with one last hurrah and sign off what has been an utterly remarkable and somewhat underrated career.
Please, Erik, do the biz. Dip into that bottomless well of resolve one last time.

To be fair to Setanta they did try and be helpful when I rang this morning, but they don't understand how 6 of the 8 channels can work and 2 don't. I could be cynical and say the 2 channels that don't work are the ones of the package people would pay for and it's an excuse to screw me for more money, but it's actually cheaper to get Setanta now than ever before so that doesn't hold up as an argument.
My own personal suspicion is that it's something to do with living in the sticks (most broadband suppliers said my signal strength wasn't strong enough for them to be willing to provide me with a service) and that whilst it worked fine before all of a sudden there is more demand on Setanta's services so there isn't the signal strength to reach me now or something. Technologically this probably doesn't hold up, but it sounds faintly plausible.
You're right though Autobarn, one person has problems and it scares people off (it's the same with reviews of electrical kit on Amazon), but I'm not getting what I paid for and it worked fine until recently yet there's apparently no cure, so what am I to think? I'd say Setenta's worth a try if you want to watch the stuff, but I'm not convinced about the reliability of it.

The answer is yes!REAL_DEAL wrote:![]()

next question i see new customers have got sentana for 9.99 a month and 3 monthers got it for 15.99 plus 2 months free. when this ends will we be on 9.99 a month or on 14.99. if 14.99 anyway to get it to 9.99
I called to give one month's notice on my Hatton package a few days ago and therefore cancel.
They offered me the 9.99 deal with no fixed term just one month's notice. Can't go wrong really as the Calzaghe fight will be on Setanta and I'd probably have paid £15 quid for that alone. This way I can see what other fights they put on for the rest of the year, will have paid £45 for six months viewing (not much more than the Hatton and Calzaghe PPVs) and am not tied into a long term contract so can cancel if they stop showing good fights.
I think its good value at the moment as they are doing whatever they can sign up viewers. No doubt it will get more expensive but if we see more top American fights then I will be happy.

Continuing my ranting about Setanta, I did find out something interesting whilst failing to watch it today.
I had a chat with a TV Aerial bloke today and he said that if one's Sky dish is slightly mis-aligned Setanta Sports won't work as they're right on the edge of what the dish can receive. He suggested I get a zone 2 dish as they're a little bigger and therefore better for remoter areas like Devon and Cornwall. This vaguely ties in with some stuff I read on 'Digital Spy Forums' discussing picture problems with Setanta.
I only mention it because I'd hate one of you to get the boxing and then find at 3am the picture's crap!
Cheers,
Dan

I can happily supply a chipped eurovox cable box for anyone in the UK for a mere £200. It includes all sky sports, movies, documentarys, music, kids, news and setanta channels. All that is required is that you are already on a cable provider ie Virgin, NTL or Telewest.
I can be contacted on 07936657976 for further details.

Which of your Setanta channels are not working? I do believe there are some restrictions to what we (in the UK) can view on Setanta Ireland. For example, I'm pretty sure the forumla one coverage is restricted cause ITV hold the UK rights.dandantheweatherman wrote:Continuing my ranting about Setanta, I did find out something interesting whilst failing to watch it today.

Guys whether you like Paying Setanta extra or not you cant deny that there the first outfit to put it up to Sky big-time and we all know honestly that this fight tonight would not have been shown Live on Sky.
Setanta for me as a boxing fan has been a breath of fresh air but to be fair im viewing the 2 packages for free for the last year so I know were the Legit Subscribers are coming from
Boxing is on alot more now Live, there can be no doubt which is great!

Same here with cable. This sucks as the hatton fight was the same. I cannot get fullscreen 4:3. Every other channel does it properly apart from setanta.Manc_Red wrote:Yeah cant understand it but im watching through Eurovox on the free..... Beggers cant be choosers and all that.
There studio output is fine but when it go's to the US black bars appear on Left and right, so i change to Full Screen (4:3) and its still there"!!!!!!!
Any Ideas??
happening to me as well. i never had these probs before. it's letterboxed from all sides. an ugly mess. the studio stuff is widescreen, the action is a little box in the middle of the telly. absolute rubbish, this. how can setanta be the future of boxing coverage if they can't even get the picture right.
changing aspect ratio doesn't make any difference.
Manc_red - the Cotto and Hatton fights were fine with me but this is different. It looks like every SS program is in widescreen now so when an event is full screen, the full screen happens WITHIN the widescreen.
