Can Reid beat Ottke?

I think Ottke will get a fair decision unless he really is sliding fast.. I like Robin Reid but what exactly does he have that Ottke hasn't already dealt with before? We all know Reid can be outboxed and frustrated, and I think it's safe to say Ottke is your boxing kind of guy.

I do think Ottke is on the slide fast, Reid has the best chance of anyone of beating Ottke, who has looked progressively worse in his last 5 title defences.

He should go broke and use his physical strength, and try and do a number on him.

I know it's a slim chance, but Ottke hasn't looked good in quite some time now.

Agreed. But Reid is more effective as a counter puncher rather than a come forward agressor. Additionally, he hasn't fought or produced a performance of note since pushing an out of sorts Calzaghe 3 years ago. I've always been disappointed by Robin Reid, I think he threw away what could have been a very productive career.

Once we're done glossing over the romanticism of a Brit going over to Italy to knock out the home favourite, we should remember that Nardiello was a poor champion. Giovani Pretorious was a light-middleweight, Henry Wharton was as limited as they come (tailor made for Reid but he produced a great performance). Reid was fortunate to get the decision against Cherifi and then was totally flumexed by Sugar Boy Malinga. He performed commendably against Calzaghe only to once again be outboxed by Branco. Ottke is the best fighter Reid has faced outside of Calzaghe.

Since then Robin has beaten distinctly average oppostion whilst marking time fighting for the ridiculous WBF title. If Reid adopts the right tactics and really takes the fight to Ottke I think he's got every chance. However, something tells me Reid is going to disappoint me again.

Agree with Lightsoot's post.

Lets not forget although Reid performed well against Calzaghe. He was fighting a guy with no sparring prepation (due to various injuries) and suffered food poisoning (or something like that) 2 days prior to the bout. Hardly great preparation.

Reid won the fight in my opinion, but Calzaghe was there for the taking. If Reid was as good as people think he is, he should have won beyond doubt.

He lost to aging fighters in Branco and Malinga decisively and has looked somewhat out of sorts in his comeback (I thought he lost to the Argie former light middle champion).

Robin Reid = Very overated.

Also, I have to disagree slightly concerning Ottke, I am told he performed badly against Larsen (many people I have heard believe he should have lost). He also didn't impress against a dissapointing Starie, who could have and should have won that fight. However, whilst alot of people will disagree, I thought he was bloody impressive against Mitchell. I thought it was a boxing lesson for the large part and no way should that have been a split decision.

Starie said some relieving things about Ottke's underated ability (i.e. "he moves faster going backwards than I can going forwards"). Both he and Mitchell said how good Ottke is as neither would really confidently call who'd win between Sven and Joe.

If Ottke can move faster than Starie going backwards, then I'm bloody sure he can move faster than the slow, robotic, Reid.

I hope Reid can do it but i is going to be hard, i believe Reid needs a KO and it will be tough at this career stage to obtain one, Ottke though is on the slide i feel and there will be no better opportunity for Reid to walk back into the big time than this. There is no way the Germans are letting Ottke lose now so he must be stopped there is no chance whatsoever of Reid winning on points IMO. He can do it though.

Reid will but unable to deal with Ottke's style. and i can seriously visualise him losing every round in one of the biggest points victories this year.

If you watch Reid's last fight against Adamovich and than a fight only 1 1/2 year ago against Fransisco Mora for example, Reid looked much faster and in much better shape.

Let's be honest, that Adamovich was a very poor opponent. Reid should've dominated him more, not powerwise, but in boxing skills.

Reid is past his best and that low left hand defense will make him an easy target for the still fast Ottke. Ottke is not near what he used to be, but I reckon he still has enough left.
This could be very ugly, but maybe because you expect it to be boring it might turn out to be pretty decent.

I see Reid as a nice last scalp for Ottke, and although the german has not been in many wars I want him to retire after this fight, he's had a great career, carrying on might do him no good.
Than again, I might be the biggest Ottke fan on this board so i'm not totally objective.
