Was he a puncher like Shavers or Foreman or do you rate him lower?
Would he have been a top 10 heavyweight if he fought nowadays?

No & no IMHO.

He had good power along the lines of perhaps a Witherspoon or so, but nothing extraordinary. Plus his own punch resistance was less than stellar.

Simms was a devastating puncher, watch his fight with Biggs where he hits Biggs so hard on the shoulder he broke his collar-bone.
He also had Shavers virtually knocked out in the first round.

Yeah, but the old shopworn Shavers survived that first round knockdown & came back to KO Sims in the fifth. So, wasn't all that or he'd have kept the aged fighter on the deck or finished him.

Like I said, he could definitely punch, but he was no Shavers or Foreman or Tyson or Tua, but more like a Witherspoon or a Lyle type of banger. Which is plenty good, but not amoung the elite.
