152 - Andrade, should've won the Pan-Am games, tough drawing a Brazilian for the finals.

165 - Tough division, I like Porter or Estrada here, any word if Edwin Rodriguez is fighting?

178 - Downs is much better than whoever is #2, if he doesn't win, it's an upset.
Rodriguez didn't make it to the Olympic Trials Box-offs. He lost in the round of 16, which he needed to win to get to the quarter-finals and the Trials.

I like Troy but the nose problem scared me off giving him a real shot. He has been around the block a few time though and that could serve him well.

Both Williams arevery tough but if Pagan fights like he did vs Luis Ramos and more importantly Mark Davis (Who had to be at least a co favorite at this weight going into the US Championships) the spot is his for the taking. Rico Ramos will make noise and could beat Pagan again if he keeps the fight low scoring. Wonder what unique training tactics Shemuel's dad has been cooking up the last few weeks ?

The summer had been all rain until about 2 weeks ago. It was quite nice, cool. But the rain stopped and now it's brutal. Not quite to 100 degrees yet, but the heat index is around 110. (The BK boys are cryin..)
If you havent spent a summer here before, you are in for a treat, the humidity is worse than anywhere in US and it never lets up, is humid all nite long, and that midday walk from Americas to GRB is not gonna be nice.
Atleast making weight will be easy..
The hotel is brand new, very nice. You are on edge of downtown, but not really a ton to do within walking distance. There is a pro boxing gym a few blocks walk, Main St. Gym on Austin St., incase you wanted to visit it.
No worries, I'll do daily reports. Have already done a few interviews..

I've been told we can take a catwalk from the hotel to the venue - that it's a short walk.....true or not?

Umm - was under the impression that downtown stores, restaurants, etc. are two blocks away. Yes or no?

Would you recommend that I rent a car to get back and forth from the venue and to go downtown?

It's a short walk, 3-4 blocks, I dont know about catwalk..

I forgot they built a shopping mall next to hotel. It's connected to tunnel system, lots of restaurants nearby.

Don't need a car for the event, only if you want to do things like go to NASA space center about 30 miles away. There's a metro train to connect to museum district and other parts of downtown.

Guess I need to find out just how far the venue is since I am not going to walk 3 or 4 blocks with the computer. Sigh.

And in hot, humid conditions. The one good thing about Vegas is your shirts don't get soaked when you take a walk, but they will in Houston.

My bad, I confused the locations of the Four Seasons and Hilton Americas. Four Seasons is on the other side of the park opposite GRB.

I put an arrow on what appears to be the catwalk. Also marked the location of the nearest boxing gym.

Definitely your bad. :D There is a catwalk directly from the Hilton Americas to the venue, so no car expense this trip for me. Yeah! Please make sure we meet in Houston - whoever you are.

You are correct. David has looked very good in the past year. I still have Russell as my pick, but he has some tough competition. Rios, Marroquin, Perales, Clark, DiPace and Ramos all are tough. Jesse Cruz is the only guy who I don't really see having a strong chance of winning it, but he is no slouch either. This is a very competitive weight class, but if Russell performs up to his ability, he will win it.

What makes Hunter the favorite? I believe Wilson has paid his dues, he is focused and ready for this win. I am curious to know what makes
Hunter the fav over Wilson? Wilson has been around for a long time vs Hunter who is young and up coming. We will all have to wait and see. My pick however is Wilson.

I agree and why I choose Wilson to win it even though many pick Hunter. Hunter is fresh and coming on strong at the right time so that puts him up there but yess I agree and feel Wilson will get there.

I feel Caferro takes it. He's beaten some of the guys listed on there before and is looking sharp. I think Rico Ramos and Raynell Williams could beat him or take it all though.
