Carl Froch will defend his British super-middleweight title against former WBC world champion Robin Reid at the Nottingham Arena on November 2nd after his promoter Mick Hennessy won the purse bid for the right to stage the highly anticipated clash earlier today.

Hennessy saw off competition from allegedly to land the Championship, which will headline a live Sky Sports event.

The Hennessy Sports boxer, who has already won the British belt out-right after making three title defences, has been recovering from surgery on his right knee which has prevented him from fighting since March.

“Carl has wanted to fight Reid for a long time and this is a fight that a lot of British fight fans want to see, so it’s great that it is finally happening,” said Hennessy. “I’m delighted to be able to bring it to his home city of Nottingham, where we expect another big crowd.

“It is a chance for Carl to show what he can do against a former world champion before going on to fight for a world title next year. The size of the bids today is a testament to his status as a rapidly developing marquee name and star of world boxing.”

WBC #1 Froch is understandably delighted that years of talk are finally over.

“I’ve seen what Reid has been saying in the press,” he said. “Now he’s got a problem; he has to come good on his words and back it all up. Instead he’s getting knocked out like he’s never been knocked out before and in my home City.”

It is a bit bad when a promtion company concentrates more on his rival than its star attraction boxer.

i wounder how long until they try to use the old football senario like they did with that other football nut junior witter also i dont think froch will want to fight for the WBU title because when calazghe unifies warren wont go near hennesey and froch will have to sign with warren to get his chance

Warren must be cracked up, he doesn't want to promote this fight, but Hennessy has paid well over the odds for it

Anyway, Warren put in a bid for worthless fight, didn't he - Froch-Adamu - and bragged about it.

Does Hennessy do much else other than Warren bash?

You see more bigger fights from Frank then Mick and better promotions too judging by the crowds you see on Tv!

It looks like FW has got his eyes on Our Carly!!!!

Ordinarily I wouldn't have been a fan of Froch-Reid, but its a decent 'comeback' fight considering Carls lay-off and the time he's had to spend out of the gym.

Frank might of not been bothered that he lost the bid. Maybe he knows he would be feeding Hennessy's ego regardless of Intention and knew Mick's life wouldn't be complete without another Warren bashing.

Froch might only win a title but not keep It for long and be one of the many Super Middles to not even defend or only have about 2 defences at most. Maybe he'll be a Berrio like holder.

Hennessy has a Golden boy deal and has decent fighters but doesn't promote them well and prefers another promoter bashing.

I think it's pretty clear he sees Froch as Calzaghe's successor. British, unbeaten, super middleweight with a powerful punch. When Joe vacates, Warren gets to keep tabs on the title.

I honestly think Hennessey fighters have suffered because the British rivalries with other promoters can't be made. Murray will do well - already he can fight Meager, Thaxton, etc. & when he's ready, Romanov for the EBU.

Froch is nearly a mandatory. Sadly, they should be pushing for title eliminators not going for Reid.

Witter really needed Hatton, though Hatton doesn't need him having beaten Tszyu and facing Mayweather in a few months...I can see Junior taking on a fired up Olusegun and defending vs whoever actually wants to

he's an interfering bloke who slags off other ppl's fighters then tries to get a piece of them. Hennessey can't be faulted for rubbing it in.

Then again he might win a World title defend it 10 times against all the top 168ers whilst unifying the division and retire undefeated.

Maybe It Is clear, I could see Froch being a fringe world class fighter due to Super Middle not being hard to win a title In except when Joe or Kessler's champ.

Hennessy fighters probably suffer because Mick prefers to call up Frank's bed phone at night feeling lonely.

Witter needs Hatton now obviously but what about when Hatton wasn't world level yet? He kept backtracking saying Witter needed a world title and had Frank put Witter Into his contract yet still got out of It. If Floyd wasn't the big name he Is Hatton wouldn't touch a style like Floyd's.

I don't know how Olusegun Is favoured over Witter at the moment by some, he's only just touched Commonwealth level. I say the same on ESB and some Olu G Rotimi dude says he's beat someoen called Holgate and Pryce which Is fair enough. But did Ali have to shed the weight at short notice? Their barely the class Witter's In.

Olusegun has looked a class act each time I've seen him, he's definately destined for BIG things IMO, providing he can resign from the 'who needs him' club.

Under the right circumstances, Forch can beat Calzaghe

But if Warren did get hold of Froch, surely it'd be wait & see time, until Joe goes up to light heavyweight.

i dont think so bud i think froch would frustrate calzaghe with good counter punching and i think froch would beat calzaghe only because calzaghe struggles so much to make weight he;s been struggling since he boxed mark delaney back in the 90s and is open about it which makes me think that froch might just have what it takes to win

Well, if he is struggling with the weight, then it's hard to imagine how much stamina he would have if he wasn't.

Throwing 1006 punches in a fight, suggests to me that his struggles with the scales are rather overplayed.

Irrelevant, whether they are correctly thrown or not, they are still going to require a lot of stamina. Calzaghe is as fit as a flea, and fighters who are desperately struggling to make weight aren't renowned for their stamina.

I think Joe probably does struggle, but he never looks badly weight drained on the scales. Hell, how many fighters DON'T struggle with the scales?

what he did takes LOADS of energy, especially for someone at 168-pounds. You see flyweights - and only the special ones - fighting that pace.
