Like any promoter, I guess Mr Warren went for the source that would pay the most money to show the fight. Can't blame him, really, although it is annoying when one says something, but then a completely different outcome occurs! Mr Warren's word is obviously worth eff-all!

Anyway, on another note, has the stadium for Kessler-Calzaghe been finalised? I know Warren said the Millenium was a bit too heavy in terms of prices etc!

Money.

There was no way W arren was going to maximise his earning potential through broadcasting Calzaghe/Kessler on a terrestrial channel. It had to go to PPV or a firm who would pay big bucks and it seems the satelite broadcasters are the ones with that.

ITV booted that prick off the Network ,
They just kept Kahn and after his last fight I bet ITV wishes they did not even do that.

What a load of bollocks.

It's clearly so they can get PPV money, as this is a big money fight with Kessler and Calzaghe both earning career high sums.

As far as I'm aware Setanta and ITV both have 7 fight deals with Warren(although ITV may be 6) .

Amir Khan can only appear on ITV but I believe ITV can show cards without Khan should they wish .

Setanta appear to have got the big stuff. ITV seem mostly to have Khan fights every couple of months.

If it's PPV on Setanta that's no problem. Kessler-Calzaghe would be worth it. Don't think any of the other fights would be. Setanta made a big financial committment to make this fight, when HBO and Showtime weren't willing to make it happen.

Sentanta could of been chosen for Joe and Mikkel because of the huge purses they wanted.

they both wanted big paydays and everyone thought US TV were going to jump to make it. Showtime wanted to make Calzaghe-Dawson with the winner to fight Kessler - yeah right Showtime. HBO wouldn't commit,

Just cancelled Setanta for the time being, will subscribe closer to the next event.

I thought it was quite funny cause they were trying to get me to still subscribe cause and they were plugging the "Eric Morales" fight next weekend.

its morons like you that give the boxing game a bad name. come up with something constructive or do one. inexplicable stupidity.

itv have kept the best upcoming talent on terrestrial tv for all the public to see. whats the problem with calzaghe kessler going on setanta if they were the only channel willing to put up the money that will allow the fight to happen. itv didnt want the fight when it was made, therefore FW has to go elsewhere to get the fights on that the fans want to see.

a little birdy now tells me that itv regret not having taken the fight..........

Is it really?

I'll bet ITV regret it, with suitable advance publicity, that fight could have been HUMUNGOUS on terrestrial. However, how do they claw back the money they spend on the event? Would they get the spend in advertising revenue? I guess they might, given that they could cram an advert in either every round or every other round.

I don't know a lot about the economics of TV advertising sadly.

James,

Not sure if Kessler has the lay boxing fans' appeal of Lacy. Its naturally a better and bigger fight for the boxing fan than Lacy, but smaller IMO for the lay boxing fan.

Kessler isn't a yank and doesn't have a dynamite punch... Plus Lacy did beat a fairly (for a boxer) well known British Boxer in Rob Reid.
