Roy jones v dwight qawi 175

Post by Irishlad69 »

While roy is now one of the history makers in making that majestic leap from lightheavy to heavy, and beating an unremarkable, yet willing champion in john ruiz, i am reasonaby curious how he would perform against some of the 175 pounders of the early eighties? Dwight muhammad qawi was a relentless, sawn-off skyscraper, who would constantly weave foreward, and come underneath his opponents offense, and drill them with short. meaty clouts. Against jones this offense would be nullified by speed, as roy is one of the quickest, mobile lightheavies ever, and would stay on the outside, and counter with deft potshots, thus making dwight walk around the ring after him. Qawi would have his moments, perhaps in the later rounds, if he can trap a flat-footed roy along the ropes, but i believe roy would handcuff dwight with hand speed, and his peculiar brand of unorthodox wizardry to capture a close UD.

Maybe your analyses is so good that no one can disagree.

Or...maybe they see the name of the one starting the thread and think it will be a waste of time to even read it.

Or, maybe , unlike me, they don't care to see if you are improving.

Irishlad69...You have described the proposed match so well that there are probably not too many contrary positions.

Oh stop it, my affable little spitting cobras! I do genuinely welcome any thoughts on such a matchup.

too enthralled by the "short, meaty clouts" that I can't get my mind on the fight.

Help me...would this be a "literal" matchup? How many years have to go by before a fantasy match becomes that other kind you wrote about somewhere?

OK...After putting on constent pressure, Braxton lands a short meaty clout and knocks that affable spitting cobra Jones into the third row right into Irishlad69's lap.

Lol! You have to admit jaclem, that if you are to visualize a proverbial "bull in a china shop" like qawi coming at you, all you can see is short "meaty" arms bearing down with utmost malevolence!

Irish kiddo...the "utmost malevolence" adds such a fine touch to the meaty clouts that I am more impressed by the wordage than the punches themselves. (I am not being sarcastic here) I'll go with Jones. Qawi/Braxton whatever was fierce, but limited and somewhat inconsistent. I think Jones would do just as you've written, with a few uppercuts thrown in to the shorter man', especially when the latter came in head down as he often did...and Roy can throw uppercuts.

Tomato Can is going to get on my butt for this. Hey,TC, I don't like Jones either.....but I'm trying to be objective here.

OK, OK...I was dreaming. I think a Jones-Braxton fight would look similar to the Spinks-Braxton fight except Jones would use handspeed and sharp punching to keep Braxton away as oppsed to the threat of power that Spinks used after having landed a couple of bombs on Braxton.

I see it as pretty one sided fight in Jones favor.....a terrible style matchup for Qawi..
When Qawi fought guys who stood in front of him like Saad and Evander..he was really tough.
..Against guys who could move like Spinks and Eddie Davis ...Qawi looked pretty ordinary..
. Roy Jones is much more difficult to corner than either of those two

..Remember Qawi wasn't the kind of puncher who whacked out people with one shot...
. He was more of a grinder who wore his opponents down with a volume of punches..

.so he's not just going to get lucky and tag Jones and knock him out...

Qawi will be game but throughly outspeeded by Roy Jones

I got to agree with this one. Jones speed may confuse Qawi...Jones on points.

I have an older version of the sim but Qawi is very much underrated. He was a better figther than the sim suggests. Jones was a little overrated on mine but that was before he got KO'd.

I think Qawi has the size and style to beat Jones. It would be a great fight.

I think there is next to no chance for Qawi beating RJJ. RJJ is to quick, has good power and is to fast on his feet for qawi to catch with his swatting right hand or his tenacios body attaks.

I see it as a late stoppage win for RJJ.

Roy at his best would be too quick for Qawi and largely would outbox him in center ring.
