Villains of the ring

Post by Mimmy »

Can anyone list or tell any stories of hard villains that were pro boxers. i think we all know Paul Sykes and The Kray Twins, but appart from those who else was not a pleasant person to know outside the boxing ring. You know the ones who you would hate to meet up a dark alley when you had a pocket full of £10 notes.

Ron Lyle killed two men including his manager. Tony Ayala had three convictions of assault or attempted assault on women by the time he hit his early twenties. Although not pro boxers Don King beat a man to death and Ricky Murphy who beat Evander Holyfield in the amatures (and lost a couple of close ones) is doing life for killing a man during a stickup.

Vincent Gigante was a pro boxer and ended up as head of the Genovese family.

Micky Cohen was also a pro (featherweight I believe) and ended up as a gambling boss in LA.

Niether guy you'd want to mess with.

there are many more than we know, thats for sure...
remember most boxers come from the mean streets, 'hardmen' first and top athletes 'ta boot' a lethal combination!

Ken Overlin was meant to be a 'prick' & a bully.

Lyle killed a trainer of his, not his manager, at a Christmas party.

He claimed self defense and got off.

Jack Blackburn stabbed some people to death and served time for that.

Curtis Hatchetman Sheppard was another.

How is it that granberry is such a good and accurate historian but can not recall a single thing about Ali-Terrell?
