Future Of Calzaghe..?
Future Of Calzaghe..?
With RJJ v Trinidad rumoured for Jan 2008, and, provided Calzaghe beats Kessler, who would the public like to see him fight next?
Hopkins has hinted at Yankee stadium in the spring, but what about the winner of RJJ and Trinidad? Maybe both?

I suggest the winner of RJJ-Trinidad should fight the loser of Kessler-Calzaghe.
The winner of Kessler-Calzaghe should fight the winner of Taylor-Pavlik.
That would give us Pavlik-Kessler which Kessler would win.
And it would give us RJJ-Calzaghe which Calzaghe would win.
So then we are back to square one. I think these two are best best of the bunch.

If JC beats Kessler, I want him to fight Hopkins or Taylor, so we can shut dem yanks up again. being a Froch fan I'd like to see JC and Carl get it on after the Kessler fight, but I don't see JC going down that route.
After recent showings RJJ and Trinidad have it all to prove to regain their superfight status IMO, so I'd like to see theat fight before commenting on whether JC should fight them.

Kessler will get Calzaghe & then either fight Hopkins or the Taylor-Pavlik winner. I want to see him stay at 168. What a lineup of fighters there is at 168 pounds.
Joe's got home advantage but it's Kessler's time now.
He's been liivng off the Lacy win which was the performance of a special fighter but allowed him to fight Bika & Manfredo which were both awful fights.
Joe threw around 1000 shots at Lacy so his solution to beat Kessler, who's better than Lacy, is to throw 2000 shots. That doesn't sound right at all. I hope he doesn't plan to throw himself at Kessler throwing anything, as he'll smother his own shots like he did with Bika.

If Joe does pull it off against Kessler its all about names until he retires - Taylor, Hopkins or Kelly Pavlik if Taylor is beaton - No more Manfredos or Bikas it has to be the top men or go up to light heavy and take on Woods.Autobarn wrote:Kessler will get Calzaghe & then either fight Hopkins or the Taylor-Pavlik winner. That was supposedly the case post-Lacy wasn't it? Calzaghe said so himself. Then he reverted to type..... so don't hold your breath!WildWaylon wrote:If Joe does pull it off against Kessler its all about names until he retires - Taylor, Hopkins or Kelly Pavlik if Taylor is beaton - No more Manfredos or Bikas it has to be the top men or go up to light heavy and take on Woods.Autobarn wrote:Kessler will get Calzaghe & then either fight Hopkins or the Taylor-Pavlik winner. I want Joe to lose to Kessler and move up to 175 for Erdei - terrific boxer lacking big fights - and Woods - great domestic world title match.WildWaylon wrote:If Joe does pull it off against Kessler its all about names until he retires - Taylor, Hopkins or Kelly Pavlik if Taylor is beaton - No more Manfredos or Bikas it has to be the top men or go up to light heavy and take on Woods.Autobarn wrote:Kessler will get Calzaghe & then either fight Hopkins or the Taylor-Pavlik winner. Shouldn't be hard to make - Joe & Erdei being long time WBO boys, and Joe and Woods being on the same channel, Setanta.
Joe doesn't want his last fight to be a brutal KO loss. If he has two fights it'll be like the Veeraphol-Hasegawa fights. Older guy gives a terrific, epic struggle to the young gun, albeit losing. Then getting his hed nearly knocked off in a rematch.yiddo14 wrote:Joe v Kessler part 2 spring next year...you heard it here first

When/if Joe beats Kessler, I hope he goes for Hopkins at the Yankee Stadium. Would probably fly over to see that one. I think Pavlik will beat Taylor too but would prefer to see Kelly unify with Abraham or Sturm before moving up in weight, plus of course theres a good chance of there being an immediate rematch in place against Taylor should Pavlik beat him.

Exactly, there would no shame losing to Kessler but retiring would be his best option - To me it would be the new SM king taking over from the old one and at 35 Joe would be best off bowing out with pride - Having said that if he lost on a close split decision I would expect Joe to want a rematch - Anyway lets be optimistic, Joe is going to win.Riddick Blowe wrote:calzaghe should retire after he loses to kessler. he would retire having had some good wins and took on a couple of top names without being reduced to opponent status.

I mean expose him as a threat to Calzaghe, this Is what I have been saying for ages.nickd wrote:You are so biased and blinkered its ridiculous. Even if Calzaghe beats Kessler how exactly is that exposing a guy who has unified titles and beaten the best the division has to offer outside Calzaghe????Twisted Transistor wrote:Expose Kessler then Dawson maybe?
I am not blinkered because I don't share most opinions on this forum.
Aren't we all biased for someone.
I got simular comments when I said Calzaghe was giving Lacy a beating and you all bought the American hype.

Some Dane on ESB says Palle stated on todays press confrence in Copenhagen that they had turned down an offer from HBO that would contain 4 fights .
3 in smw and 1 in lhw. no names were mentioned.
but Palle said that when Kessler beats jc the money in that offer will increase big time! hes right on that but what if Kessler looses.
Come onnnnnn Joooooe!

Interesting. Maybe they feel that if/when they win, they'll be able to plan their own path.
Kessler could be very big in boxing if he wins. Joe is a naturally quiet person and reluctant to go out there. Kessler is more personable and more willing to get up and make things happen.
I think it's time for the division to move on and hope Joe loses a very good close fight. Then we can see Kessler in with the next generation. If Calzaghe wins he'll have made himself a great, but super middle won't go anywhere interesting.
