Anybody have an recollection of Glenn's final fight against Al Cole for his old IBF Cruiserweight title back in 1993.
I read an article in boxing monthly (must be about 3 years ago) which suggested that Glenn did very well in this challenge. Apparently, Glenn took the fight to try and show he still had something left (in his own devision) after the battering he took after Lennox Lewis. I was under the impression that Glenn did well and the decision could have gone either way. Glenn said he did what he proved and then retired.
However, looking at boxrec the scoring was very wide and it would appear that he took a beating (as he was down twice in the 6th). I lost interest in McCrory's carrer after he lost to Lewis (thinking it was all over) so I didn't see the fight, nor realised it actually took place untill the article.
Also, why did the fight take place in Russia of all places.
The BM article said that if Glenn knew what he now knows about diet and nutrition then he would have made the cruiserweight limit confortably and probably wouldn't have lost his title as early as he did, or fight at heavyweight.
Any info on McCrory vs Cole would be appreciated.
Glenn McCrory
I recall readind reports in BM & BN on the fight and my memory seems to echo your post Stujones. But I don't think there was any sort of contiversity over the verdict. I think Glen put up a good fight but Cole was a clear winner, from what I recall reading, although I admit I've never seen the fight.
