Apparently there was talk about this fight actually happening at one time, does anyone remember any details?
If it had happened what do you think would have been the result?

Yes, it was never on the cards, Hagler attracted criticism for taking on smaller men in his superfights (Duran, Hearns, Leonard...there was even talk of Don Curry moving up to challenge him in 1986) and yet not fighting a bigger man like Spinks. But the gap from 11st 6lbs to 12st 7lbs was too wide.lamphey wrote:The way I remember it was that Hagler said Spinks was just too big for him and he didn't want the fight.
I think Hagler was right.
Yes Bennie I to recall talk of a Curry - Hagler fight but I suppose our own Raggamuffin man stopped that one.bennie wrote:Yes, it was never on the cards, Hagler attracted criticism for taking on smaller men in his superfights (Duran, Hearns, Leonard...there was even talk of Don Curry moving up to challenge him in 1986) and yet not fighting a bigger man like Spinks. At the time it seemed a good fight but with hindsight I'd see Hagler stopping Curry in about 6-8 rounds.
I bet Hagler would have finished on his feet, but Spinks would have beaten him to a pulp. That's not a fair fight. Spinks walked around at 190 pounds. Hagler walked around at basically the same weight he fought at, and he rarely even came in at the 160-pound limit. I have no doubt he could have made 154 if he had ever wanted to fight there.
