Where's Ben Carey?

Post by oliverfennell »

We all know what happened with UKBoxingPress. Carey then set up ukfightnews.co.uk but that's been stagnant for ages. Where is he? Presumably abandoned UKFN?

The lucky fecker obviously has better things to do. I think that a couple of weeks ago he was on holiday but he's probably back to reality now.

I'm not sure why you felt this warranted a thread, Oliver?

You have my personal email address and phone number - if you were so concerned why not get in touch that way instead of kickstarting an unncessary thread on here?

I'm disappointed by your tone. I pulled the UKBP site but then resurrected it purely for you after you complained that I'd flushed your work down the bog so you could salvage your work. As a gesture, the site remains up so the others can access their old work, too.

To answer your question, I've been very busy. I've taken on more responsibility at work which means I'm regularly working 10 hour days including having to do stuff at weekends. That's how it is at the moment, I'm afraid. I've recently got back from a well earned rest in Mexico. Thankfully I returned on Monday so we missed experiencing the rath of Hurricane Dean.

I've never promoted UKfightnews - it's a long term project, not a sprint, which is going to have to be a work in progress. If people have asked me about it, I've told them, but I always knew my time would be limited to spend on the site. I spent time getting it up and running in the hope that it would eventually attract others.

A little birdy told me you were waiting to see how ukfightnews progressed before deciding whether to join the site instead of getting your hands mucky to get it off the ground. I haven't "abandoned" the site, I just don't have enough hours in the day to be able to devote to it right now. I am catching up on this though. This morning I watched Nicky Cook vs Steve Luevano and I will eventually offer my thoughts on all the Summer's action.

The old UKBP team have gone off doing other things. You have joined Kevin and Ian and Martin and Sam are doing bits for Steve Wood. That's fair enough. I wish you and everyone else well.

Believe me, there's nothing more I'd like to do than contribute on this forum and establish my site but sometimes in life you've got to prioritise which I'm sure you'll appreciate. Family and Job must come ahead of unpaid hobby.

No "tone", Ben - come on, don't act like Spud and start seeing demons which aren't there!

I only put the question out in public because you hadn't answered my email and there are other people who know you who might be able give an update.

Thanks for answering the query, anyway. I've been checking UKFN most days but haven't seen an update in weeks, which is why I wondered what had happened. As I've said to you, Ben, I like your work and it deserves to be seen by a bigger audience.

Good luck with whatever you choose to pursue and - yes, more importantly - your family and paid work.

Fair do's then Oliver. I was just conscious of another thread being started for people to come on and have a dig at me. Considering how hard I worked and given what happened I'm a little sensitive about it.

What email didn't I answer? Sorry. I've got tons sitting in my inbox. I recall replying about a URL directer though.

I'd like to be read by a wider audience but whilst my time is limited I'd be of no use to anyone at present. Cheers though.

What I want to know, Ben, is when are you going to have some time to do more ringside interviews with the mic?

They were class...those were the days, mate! :TU:

That made me chuckle mate. I remember asking Neil Dawson why he’d been so inactive and he replied that he’d accidentally drilled through his hand at work.

Those Sunday afternoon gigs at the Octogan Centre were the best. The bills never started on time which gave me, you and Heath enough chance to hit the bar beforehand, the Curry House was always an option on the way back and we could get the tram home.

Good to hear from you mate. Must admit myself and Martin have been snowed under with other stuff during the Summer break, but we'll be back concentrating on VIP from Sept.

Hope all is well and the little one is okay. :TU:

Well i talked to him for as long as i could manage then told him my name was "Dr Budd Butters MD" and that i used to play drums for the Teardop Explodes.

Then i took my shoe off to show him my nail polish, but he wasn't very interested in that, for some reason.
