Challenger's Brackets

Post by Dennis »

It would have been nice if USA Boxing could have posted the match-ups in the challenger's brackets in the morning before the days bouts started. For tonight I do know that in the 165# class Shawn Porter is boxing Fernando Guerrero. That also means that Dominic Wade is matched against Zach Hardrick. So the question is who will Wade be boxing tomorrow? I know that Wade has faced Guerrero before, but Porter will be just as difficult. I think the winner of Porter v Guerrero will get the rematch against Jacobs. Danny will have the time to rest, but this weight class could come down to a bout on Sunday, August 26th.

201 - I wish I knew who was matched up in the challenger's bracket. My guess is Willett v Carey and Guzman v Tettis, but it could be Willett v Tettis and Guzman v Carey.

I believe they were alternating on the bracket. I believe the second-round loser from the top of the bracket fights the first-round loser from the bottom, and vice versa.

So I would predict Willett will be fighting Tettis, and Guzman against Carey.

Cross bracketing

Post by holeymoley99 »

Yes they use cross bracketing in the loser pool,it has been the same the last several trials. As a wrestler I am very familiar with the format. It helps prevents rematches until later in the tournament.

So what happens tomorrow? Who gets the bye? The guy that just lost in the finals of the winner's bracket or one of the two other guys left in the challenger's bracket.

I'm sure the loser from the winner's bracket will wait for the winner of the two winners from the loser's bracket.

Correct

Post by holeymoley99 »

That is correct, the loser in the championship final gets a bye to the finals of the loser/consi bracket.

Most years only 1-2 winners from the championship bracket get upset but I have a feeling we may see 3 or more this year. Beating a guy twice in a row is never an easy feat especially if he has beaten you once already in the tournament but we may have a few instances where the consi bracket champion lost to someone other then the championship winner and the styles could present serious probelms.

RSC-H victory would eliminate the need for a final bout on Sunday. It could happen.
