I'm leaning towards that, but not with your confidence....

Cotto destroys Mosley by the 8th im my book, Cotto just needs to avoid the sucker punch which he's prone to and Mosley is more than capable of unleashing :box:

Mosley easily wins the first couple of rounds, goes through a flat spot from his all out wild "Power Boxing" (as he even did vs Adrian Stone), cops a mid fight body beating. He'll fight back bravely over the final third but Cotto will be punishing him down the stretch to win by late TKO or 8-4 decision.

I don't see Mosley winning. I think this will be his last fight.

I make Mosley a slight favourite in this one. He has a few things in his advantage. He's quick, he has an excellent chin (has he ever been down?) and although he's a little faded, he still has an elite level skill set. For me he's easily the best competition that Cotto has faced, and if he beats him then it's really time to take Cotto seriously as a P4P force.

I don't see what Cotto does better than Mosley in any department. Mosley is the more skilled boxer, has far faster hands, hits harder imo, better defense, better chin, at least as hard hitting to the body, workrate/stamina is better.

So how does Cotto win? If he goes to the body Mosley can fire back to the body or throw big right hands. If he jabs he gets right hand counters over the top. If they brawl Mosley has the better chin and maybe stronger.

The only question mark is if Mosley is too far past his prime. But his win against Collazo is very impressive. We saw what a hard time Collazo gave RIcky Hatton. Mosley also had a very close second fight with Winky Wright, the 2 KOs over Vargas. His fight against Cruz he didn't look fantastic but he maybe back in some excellent form now

Another point is Cotto was very easy for Judah, Mallignaggi, Tores, Corley to find and tag very clean and hard. If Mallignaggi was a bigger puncher he'd have won. If Judah threw more leather (or maybe if he wasnt low blowed) he'd have won. If Corley was a good finisher he'd have won. If Torres had some skill he'd have won. Mosley is a level above these guys, if Cotto gets tagged clean and is hurt Mosley will jump on him. He won't be feather fisted like Malignaggi or stop throwing leather like Judah.

I really don't know how anyone can say either fighter 'wins easily'. It's simply not that kind of fight.

When two fighters of this quality meet, it's rare that one wins comfortably, and if one does it's usually down to some kind of unforseeable style mis-match or unknown problem one of the fighters has.

Of course, one fighter may win at a canter, but I don't see how anyone can say that now. Fair enough, one can predict a winner, but I don't think one can predict an 'easy' winner.

For what it's worth, I think this fight depends on how Cotto's chin holds up. Although everybody puts his chin problems down to being weight-drained at 140, I definitely think it can be dented, and Mosley hits hard and fast -- harder, and more often, in my view, than Judah, who hurt Cotto a couple of times. If, however, Cotto's chin isn't dented too badly, he can punish Mosley in a close, tough fight to take the decision by a couple of rounds or so.

It's very close to call but I'll go for youth to prevail and Cotto to win a unanimous points decision.

But of a cliche but he might just want it a bit too much for Mosely if he can negate some of Moselys defensive skills and force 'wanting it' to actually be a factor.

I really like Cotto's style and would like the fighter with the longer future to win for the sake of the sport but i see Mosley as a strong favourite.

Since he's come back down to Welter his speed and combinations have returned. He looked finished against Winky cos he was loading up trying to match the bigger man's power. Mosley can take a whack has speed, good power, footwork the whole lot.
Cotto has beaten a fighter with a speed advantage in Judah but he didn't throw combinations. I can see this looking a lot like Cotto v Torres but without the lack of preparation factor. Cotto should look good in spells but with Shane constantly making him unravel partially for a late stoppage or points in.

I totally agree, I cant see how Cotto can win he isnt as good in any department.

i think shanes too clever and can vary his game plan better if things arent going well in one direction.
also he will outjab cotto with quick twos and threes. he is a smarter cookie than miguel and has looked good of late despite his age.
but this is a tuff one for both men no doubt about it. it'll be close. shane by decision.

winner to fight the winner of pbf/hatton?

I don't think Cotto or Mosley will be top of the list for either Mayweather or Hatton. Both men would give up lots in terms of size and strength.

But the winner fighting Paul Williams might be on the cards.

If Mayweather and Mosley win they're fighting (unless DLH wants either)

I must say I'm surprised to see so many picking Mosley. I suspect (although I could be wrong) that many who predict victory for Sugar Shane would then pick Hatton over him.

On his day nobody is more relentless than Cotto. He doesn't care how many punches he misses with in order to land. I just don't see Mosley standing the heat at this stage. But whatever your point of view it's still yet another mouth watering Cotto fight.

i think youre wrong carbo. size and strength considerations are given up in virtually all fights. funny how the least strong guy of the four is P4P no.1!!

good post. i'm still not sure but i'm leaning that way. i think power will only get you so far (not that Cotto is 'one-dimensional') and Shane is a class operator. i think Shane wins a close decision in a very good, tough, close fight.

Cotto is made for him.

I find it hard to pick a winner here. I suspect Mosley though may have been flattered by the Collazo win. Collazo ain't a big hitter, Cotto is, and Mosley can most definetly be hurt to the body.

Would be a great win for Mosley at this stage of his career, and would put a rather different complection on his standing as a fighter.

Had Mosley not chased DLH up to 154, his career could have looked very different than it does now.

Cotto-Hatton is a pickem, I can certainly see Hatton taking Cotto too with his speed and workrate.

It would be a good fight to see if both lose. I think this will only happen if both win though. Hatton will probably return to 140 if he loses.

This is a great fight and i could predict either way.

A few random thoughts.......

Mosley is the biggest threat at 147 to Cotto
Cotto is the biggest threat to Mayweather at 147
Cotto would pound on Hatton
Hatton's better off fighting Mayweather (but still looses)
Cotto, Mosley & Mayweather would all beat Williams

I'm actually looking forward to this fight more than Hatton vs Mayweather. Its harder to pick, and I think could be a fight of the year contender.

Cotto is going to hand out a painful beating on Shane. Two great fighters, going in different directions - when was Mosley's best? 5...6 years ago?

Should be a good fight though, and Shane is going to win those early rounds, but he doesn't really carry the big punch needed to keep Cotto off him all night. He's brave and takes a good punch, which is why I see him taking a fearsome beating from the Puerto Rican.
