Thought I would create a thread seperate from the results thread to talk solely about the US Olympians for 2008, the guys who will be representing the good old USA in Beijing; and what you think of their chances at the Olympics. And what you think of their winning the trials and becoming the Olympic nominees. Thus far the US Olympic team is:
Luis Yanez
Raushee Warren
Saddam Ali
Demetrius Andrade
Shawn Estrada
More results to come as the night progresses. Thus far, I'm not surprised by Andrade or Warren; and very, very surprised by Estrada, who seems to have pulled every last thing together when it counted to beat Jacobs twice.
2008 Olympic Team shaping up at this moment
Ok, updated results now. Unless I am mistaken; the US team has only two spots unfilled: 125, as Hylon beat Raynell tonight; and 119, as Russel beat Marroquin. So right now the team is:
Yanez, Warren, Saddam Ali, Javier Molina, Demetrius Andrade, Shawn Estrada, Chris Downs, Deontay Wilder, and Michael Hunter.

106 Yanez has a shot at a medal.
112 Warren is our best chance for a gold medal.
119 Russell will win again, make the Olympic team and has the potential to win a medal in Beijing.
125 Raynell Williams will win the rematch. He could develop and win a medal, but he has a lot of work to do if he wants a shot at one.
132 Sadam Ali will have some work to do to have a shot at a medal.
141 Javier Molina has amazed me over the last 3 months. If he continues to improve as dramatically he could win a medal.
152 Demetrius Andrade is a guy who has good potential for a medal.
165 Shawn Estrada had the tournament of his life at the trials. Keep working hard, control his emotions in the ring, and improve - he could be a medalist.
178 Downs needs to improve a lot to face the best of the world. A good draw could get him a bronze.
201 Deontay Wilder needs a lot more experience, but a 6'7" heavy with long arms and a powerful right hand could be developed into a hopeful. He has come a long way in a short time so let's see what he can do in 12 more months.
201+ Mike Hunter is a guy with a big upside sort of like Javier Molina. Can he improve enough to win against the big boys around the world? This will be difficult as can be seen by how poorly are big guys have done recently. However, Mike is young and could get to the medal rounds if he works hard enough.
I am an optimist so I think we have the potential to win a half dozen medals or more, but I know it will be difficult. Realistically with the international judging, I think we will be lucky to get 3 or 4 medals.
