In January Vargas reported to this training camp at 264lbs.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:Vargas shouldn't be fighting becauses hes lows upto 220lbs (16stones). Obviously hes cut away all real foods and starved himself to make weight. Either that or he can't even make weight 162 anymore
I wonder if the part of the reason Hamed quit was problems making 126 due to letting himself go

Man, that can't be right. I mean, it can't be.Shirow wrote:In January Vargas reported to this training camp at 264lbs.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:Vargas shouldn't be fighting becauses hes lows upto 220lbs (16stones). Whatever, the guy might as well have scurvy. It's obvious that he's had to seriously deprive himself of nutrients in order to make weight. A shocking show from a so called professional. These guys have to start realising that proper nutrition and between-fight health and fitness are as much a part of their profession as the fight itself.
I think they would get a big, big shock if they spent a year training with the modern equivalents of Matthew Pinsent, Liz Mccolgan, Seb Coe. The year-round dedication displayed by those atheletes makes both nouns unapplicable to most boxers.
I can't even picture it myself but he admitted it in at a press conference and his nutritionist stated the same in a recent interview. It's truly disgusting. His only defence is "i love my food".
How a supposed athlete can pack on 100lbs of blubber in 6 months is almost beyond belief.
What do you think he weighs here?

He is a fatty no doubt, Shirow. However, sometimes a fighter will exaggerate a little to give his opponent a false sense of security. Didn't Steve Pollard used to say Paul Ingle used to weigh in excess of 13 stone - alot of journo's used to treat it with a pinch of salt (although Ingle did balloon, surely not that much).
It is a bit disgusting PN, but Ricky does similar things (and unlike Fernando he fights more often). Fernando has had over a year to but on the weight.

I don't think I could put that much weight on if I didn't excercise for a year and drunk 6 pints a day and ate a Mcdonalds a day.
Well maybe I would but he must have really had to work at that...

If he dieted properly he could certainly get the proper nutrients. Losing so much weight is dangerous anyway though, especially as I doubt Vargas is disciplined in training making the weight even harder to lose.Carbo wrote:It's obvious that he's had to seriously deprive himself of nutrients in order to make weight. Stu i did consider that some exagerration was involved to make the feat of weight loss seem even greater but he gets (and would have known he would get) nothing but disrespect for abusing his body. It would also point to his lack of seriousness about the fight and could hurt ticket sales.
For that reason i'm inclined to believe it. I don't understand it but it seems you can't underestimate the American culture of overeating.
Anyone else see that documentary last week about that 50 stone guy who was in a hospital/weight loss clinic on a strictly controlled diet? He was ordering in takeaways & his wife was sneaking in burgers. Died at 39 from heart failure heavier than he was when he was admitted to the hospital.

American food is amazing stuff, they cook well but use amazing quantities of fats
Vargas seems like a chubby kid kind of guy when he was growing up. Boxing uses up tonns of calories so you can eat loads but when you stop and ckeep eating allot.
Dieting for 12weeks hard can lead to binge eating when you stop too. Look at Hatton/Duran/Morales/Hamed and many ex-boxers who go fat when they quit

Of course that's true, but I don't think I explained myself properly. He's obviously been trying to starve himself, rather than dieting properly. One would assume he's been so afraid about his weight, he's gone to extremes to get it off.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:If he dieted properly he could certainly get the proper nutrients.
