Setanta coverage was shocking

Well the commentary was anyway.

Everybody took enormous glee in sticking the boot into the BBC for some reason, when I didn't even think they were that bad.

But these guys, eff me...

Completely missed the first KD of Dunne, when they caught up 5 seconds later thought it was slip.

They didn't realise Healy had been pulled out against Lee even when the 2 fighters were having a chat in the middle of the ring!

They still questioned it 'oh I think they've stopped the fight' - No mate fighters generally get up and have a chat in the 60 second break.

In general it sounded like the commentators were 2 blokes having a few tins and watching the fight in their frontroom.

Jim Delacunt has always been a terrible presenter as well! For those wondering where he came from he used to present the footie on STV, he really is shit.

Jock Brown (aye, Craig Brown's brother!!) commentating as well was just wrong.

Thre only thing that bothered me was that they missed out the 1st two rds of the Lee fight and that they finished an hour or so early when they could have shown the Lee fight in full and Maclin. OK the commentary's not Ian Darke and Jim Watt or even Adam Smith and Glenn McCrory standard. But we're getting more fights so stop moaning! I mean, for main event we got an exciting KO for the EBU title and for the main support we got a British title fight.

I agree with Auto, the more boxing the better, but it would be good to see a regular team established. Rawling and Bunce ringside (with Duke an optional extra!), as for the Hatton-Castillo fight, and Dempsey presenting in the studio with, say, Richie Woodhall as analyst would be a pretty good line-up.

The production quality is dire and we are paying for it. We can complain as much as we want.

ok, it would be nice to see a consistent team and t have better commentating. I agree. But I also see a lot of good things about their coverage. Namely, the fights that they are picking up. Nowadays, we don't miss an awful lot, do we?

We've got the cake. The icing can come next, you bloody moaner!

ok, Asia, Canada and Germany are underrepresented, and I hope this is something that will be fixed. But the fact is we're getting a lot of UK and US fights.

Agreed that it's a postive that Setanta are bringing us these fights but people didn't really seem to give the BBC that break when they were covering some boxing and just slated them about Jim Neilly, then Rawlings etc...

I never really care about the commentary too much. Some of the most sickening has been ITVs kiss are biased commentary. That I really can't stomach - but free fights were nice all the same

It seems that the most honest commentator was Steve Collins. On Macca-Heinechen, he said something like "I think Macca will stop him inside the distance. Heinechen seems to think so as well..."

I don't think he was given more commentating jobs after that for ITV! Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I have no problem with Rawling & Bunce from the Hatton-Castillo. Bound to split ppl down the middle. I like Dempsey in the studio stuff. I thought I'd be glad to be rid of the guy after he left Sky ironically.

The old boy commentating on the Irish channel was worried that when he mentioned the colour of Lee's trunks, "those watching in black and white" wouldn't know who he meant.....

We are never going to be happy. These TV channels come onto these forums and yes I am with you lot sometimes by having a good moan sometimes, but the point is Setanta, Sky, ITV and the BBC will tell boxing to f uck off if us the fans are never happy and always moaning.

Very true, but a good commentary team can make a bad fight good, and a bad commentary team can make a good fight bad. I know its horses for courses, but personally I cringe (these days) at Holdsworth's commentaries... Eurosport sometimes have some real belters and some good delayed action, but he spoils it... Mee doesn't.

If the TV companies are listening to our moans, then why don't they do something about it. No-one moans about the Sky Team. So we would be happy if they got someone decent.... some of us might differ on what is good and what is bad (e.g. I know some who love Holdsworth and Bunce, I cannot stand them). However, when some are universally bad (McKenzie, Jacobs) - then why do the TV companies continue to pay their wages... get someone else in.

The TV companies couldn't give a toss about us moaning.

They give a toss about subscriptions and advertising.

And I'm a subscriber but I think the commentary is shite or was on Saturday!

Surely ex fighters like Bobby Vanzie would be available haven't prized themselves out.

You'd think Woodhall would get loads more work than he does. He just seems to turn up now and again. Maybe he has other committments. But he's better than any of those guys to have worked on Eurosport or Setanta.

Re the moaners - I'll bet you'd all be moaning if you didn't get some of these fights that are going to be shown.

I suppose its difficult to get the right mix at first. If it hasnt settled in say 10 fights time, and its still shit, then theres something wrong somewhere. trial and error from the irish TV executives??

there's a definite feeling that they are testing things out
