has any pro boxer boxed with ticket sales only as a wage

dean just been offered a welsh title fight with no pers offers what a joke only the sales of tickets for wage lookes like boxing going backwords not forwards and with all the tv coverage what a joke

Pro boxing, esp on the small hall stage, relies heavily on ticket sales to survive/prosper.

The simple fact is that if you arent a journeyman who is used to bolster records, and you dont sell enough tickets as a fighter, there is little room for you on the vast majority of cards.

Dean's a good fighter - I have followed his career since he turned pro and his war with Judson will live long in the memory.. its a shame he is struggling to get work and the offer of a title fight with prize money based only on ticket sales is pretty unfair.

MOST FIGHTER HAVE TO SELL TICKETS TO GET A WAGE OR THEY DONT FIGHT THIS IS NOT FAIR THEY ARE PAYING FOR THE OTHER FIGHTER OUT OF THE TICKET MONEY TO AND THEY PAY 20% TO 35% AS WELL ITS A JOKE.

As Twenty Six says it is common practice, even more so for undercard fights and those non TV fights. Also a promoter may offer a boxer a purse supplemented by a high percentage on the tickets he sells.

Bit tight that if t.v. is involved, where would a win put him?
Boxing is bussiness/sport. Money first always, stay amatuer if you just love the game.

THEY HAVE JUST OFFERED A PERSE OFFER PLUS TICKETS TO BOX BUT AS DEAN HAS STATED TO SPORTS NETWORK UNLESS ITS A BETTER OFFER HE WONT BOX WHAT THEY HAVE OFFERED DEAN GETS MORE IN A MONTH IN HIS COMPUTER WORK HE WOULD HAVE TO TAKE 3 MONTHS OFF WORK SO HE WOULD BE OUT OF POCKET AND AS IT IS ON TV THE MONEY OFFER SHOULD BE BETTER AND THEY WANT HIM TO GO UP TWO WEIGHT DEVISIONS TO BOX FOR THE WELSH WELTERWEIGHT TITLE SO THE MONEY HAS TO BE MORE

Jones is a big lad, if as you say they box at welter, dean will in fact be fighting 3 divs above his natural weight. Come fight time jones will be at least light middle.
jones will be too much all round, if they box i'll wish dean all the best.

Tanos Lambrianides a Greek boxer who was based in Wales had to give all of his purses to charity, i think it was something to do with him not being allowed to earn a wage.
