Kessler: Call me Mike Kessler
calzaghe was born in hammersmith londonMax Molyneux wrote:Lewis was actually born In West Ham though and lived here till he was 12 and came backE wrote:well it does make him more English than Lennox Lewis, Michael Bentt, Herbie Hide, Greg Rusedski, zola budd etc
Mick Kessler Is a half Englishman at most.
It is Toney fighting Rahman wearing a Mexican hat and clothes, or Mayweather wearing all mexican clothes for ODLH fight. Everyone seems to do it.Axe wrote:This is exactly what Lacy was trying to do: appear as English as he could when flying in to Calz's backyard. It's rather sad in a way.
Kessler, so far hasn't done or said anything that is not so. Toney is not Mexican in the slightest - neither is Mayweather.
Kessler actually is half english. That is not make-belief. He is and much of his family still live in England.

i still make calzaghe favourite for this.
although i made f&cking lacy favourite didn't i.
Both Joe and Mikkel would give him a boxing lesson. He needs a champ like Berrio to win a belt.
I don't mean infighting. I just mean hover in & out of range, make the short armed Calzaghe miss with his increasingly flappy slappy shots, step back in close enough to drop in a punch THAT COUNTS. Kessler can minimise these flurries. He's a great perimeter fighter and is a master of judging distance. Break the rhythm, make him over reach. When Calzaghe overreaches he pulls himself off balance. I'm sure you saw this in the Veit rematch a few times.Max Molyneux wrote:Did I meantion Kessler's nationality? I said he was an orthodox euro. He doesn't look that much different to guys like Mick Jennings.Autobarn wrote:stereotyping fighters by their nationality is not clever. I can't see how he's more than a typical orthodox European. Joe tucks his chin In, has countered/ parried or avoided. Kessler mostly covers up and can be made uncomfortable on the backfoot when he has to cover, Andrade just Isn't as good as Joe to exploit that. When Joe overwhelms him on the ropes he's fucked.
Right hands hit Joe but not as many as made out. Joe has a great chin to take them anyway.
I don't doubt what he's achieved and I do say Kessler would beat anyone else at super middle, but as a threat to Calzaghe the hype Is overrated. He won 2 belts, great but one was limited and one didn't come to win.
You ought to be looking for the flaws in Joe. Even in his best ever performance he was wanging away with NO GUARD. His combos were exhilarating, but come on, he doesn't have a defense.
I'm saying this and I'll say it again. Joe has done well but now ppl know how he fights. He shocked many ppl, but once someone figures him out, he's through. Joe will push a fighter to their limits, but if they can find the right distance, make him miss his cuffs and pounce on him, if they can minimise the flurries and drop in hard counters, he, my friend, is F U C K E D.
Eight shoeshine shots can do a fair amount of damage in close - at the very least they can fluster a man. However, if you're smart, if you can move to the right positions, one cuff doesn't mean shit. He needs the first cuff to power the next one and the one after that. You BREAK THE FLOW and he won't be teeing off. He'll be overreaching.
This is the fight where he has to show something different. At 35 (and he looked old late in the Bika fight) and with those hands, his time has come.
**Would a 28 yo Calzaghe risk his WBO belt against an unbeaten champ away from home? You don't need me to answer that. Kessler's had perfect practise for this fight. He beat Mundine in Oz -a very good away from home win. And he coped with Andrade's pressure in a physically demanding fight.**
Well I acknowledge the right hands that hit Joe thats a flaw. Yep he was showboating with no guard against Lacy at moments but he did have defence(tucking his chin In close for example) and Inside game. Kessler has no Inside game. His hands were high against Manfredo and he kept on jab well being patient.
Joe does keep his hands high and doesn't lack defence, he was outclassing Lacy In one of the best boxing beatings ever. He even got a point deducted for some smack on the back thing too. Why use one performance and pick moments where he showboated?
Joe can also time Kessler with those In and out steps and a southpaw like Joe can jab his way Inside and pressure Kessler onto the backfoot and overwhelm him with those flurries. He timed Lacy coming In and he can against Kessler, he doesn't just always do a Hatton and recklessly charge In although he has done that.
In close? Kessler never has fought close In fights I've seen.
Looked old against Bika? Bute looked shit too, Bika and most fighters would look shit against someone who fights dirty and spoils. Froch
looked shit against Barney because he was spoiling. Are you not just using the fact he's 35 as a convenient excuse? 35 Is only old for guys like Hatton who go through wars and recklessly mess their weight around.
Mundine handpicks fighters and works his way Into WBA paper shots and Andrade Is not a proven contender. Joe Is leagues above Andrade and Is much better at pressuring a fighter onto the ropes and overwhelming them ad has the right style to beat Kessler. You and most said Mundine was timid and a different fighter now. Only similarities to Joe and Tony Is they have fast hands.
After Kessler who else do we jump on and say Joe will lose to them.
Calzaghe doesn't do flurries like Manny Pac, Calzaghe's not one dimensional like Manny.
I'm not saying Mundine is Calzaghe. I said Kessler had the practise of already going into another fighter's backyard, who has a strong national following. Mundine was very tricky and much better coordinated than Calzaghe. Of course it's a fvcking different fight, because Mundine doesn't like to fight.
Look, Joe is not going to change now. That's why he was matched carefully. Frank likes his fighters to "win a title and keep it for a very long time." (as he said of his plans for Arthur). Regardless of what you say, Joe throws long combinations and when he's doing that, he leaves his chin up in the air. He didn't pay for it vs the squat Lacy. He will pay for it vs the tall Kessler.
yes, but I also been right with other fighters.states wrote:You know what? Right now, my biggest worry for Kessler is your support of him Autobarn. I'm thinking Tokarev, Klassen..... you do seem to have put the curse on a few guys this year.
Kessler's more proven than Tokarev and Klassen. Klassen had no power and his discipline went. Tokarev hadn't proven himself with good work in the late rounds.
What's wrong with making a bold pick? Or do we all have to be safe, fall in line and just go along with the status quo and when there's an upset just try to rationalise after the fact?

I don't think going Into other fighters backyards Is that relevant unless It has to be done to make the fight happen.Autobarn wrote:I don't mean infighting. Joe won't just recklessly go at Mikkel with flurries like you think and then let Kessler try to counter him with his stepping In and out thing and landing punches at the right time. He didn't do that against Lacy either, he let Lacy come to him for most of the fight.
Joe Is much more faster than Mikkel and Joe can work to get close and put the pressure on not giving Kessler a chance to work that distance. Joe used his jab well to pressure Manfredo and then overwhelm him with flurries and I reckon he do pretty much the same with Kessler with his southpaw jab.
Frank does over protect at times but he does season his fighters well and they have success once they step up because of Frank's matchmaking. Hatton was seasoned well by Frank's matchmaking. If Warren's carefully matching Calzaghe then why throw him In with Kessler?

you're full of fvcking wank. all you do is cheerlead Warren fighters. Fighters who have been sat on and smothered by mother goose, insult the fans in "title makes the fighter" fights, and then land a "career defining fight" which all of a sudden validates years' worth of horseshit.Max Molyneux wrote:I notice that anyone low profile and who has a decent jab Is rated highly by him.states wrote:You know what? Good English.Joe Is much more faster than Mikkel
Lacy was too flustered to land anything. Joe's head was ridiculously high. Just because on man can't capitalise doesn't mean others can'y.
I just want Kessler to get this over with because, let's face it everyone, it has not been a fun ride has it (following Calzaghe)?

No, I just agree with a few FW points, I don't cheer lead him like most make out. It seems on this forum that If you defend a few points your labeled as working for FW or being a cheerleader.Autobarn wrote:you're full of fvcking wank. all you do is cheerlead Warren fighters. What promoter doesn't do what Is an Insult to fans? Fans still buy the tickets though and just move on after seeing something was a farce. Most boxing fans are very agressive and bitter though at times when discussing the sport.
Yes one might capitalise while the other doesn't, showboating does make you open though and I doubt he will showboat against Kessler. I don't think Kessler will be able to capitalise either and gave valid non blinkered reasons.
I've only followed Calzaghe since 2004/5 so been on the ride when he fought guys like pudwill.
Kessler is no threat. He got his titles by saving up coupons cut out from Cornflakes boxes. He will lose in November because Calzaghe has more faster hands & a more tighter defense. He is only coming over to cash in. How can he call himself a champ; he never even beat a US Olympian. He already knows he's going to lose because he has gone to Monaco for training - something he's never done before for other fights. It's not even a good fight. It will be too one-sided. We need to see Joe vs a stylish American like Winky Wright.

I am quite amazed you should think this is a one sided fight - Yes we know how good Joe is but even so it could be his toughest fight to date and it wouldnt surprise me if it was - Its a great match up between two champions who want to unify and Kessler is comming here to try to win and not for any other reason - Kessler is a genuine threat, and no way is this fight a forgone conclusion for either man - If Joe wins, and I think he will, fights with Hopkins or Wright could follow, I hope so anyway - At the moment though this is the best fight to have and if Joe can beat Kessler and be the holder of all three belts it will be a fantastic acheivement - I firmly believe Joe will retire on a high having proved he is one of our best champions ever.Autobarn wrote:Kessler is no threat. very perceptive of you. there were plenty of clues - incorrect grammar "more faster", Wright as a "stylish American", Calzaghe having a tight defense and Kessler not having earned his titles...pundit wrote:Is this an attmept at irony?Autobarn wrote:Kessler is no threat. Haha Autodude, Calzaghe did slip some shots there and you think he doesn't slip shots.
No way In hell does Kessler have a chance.
Anyone can call me blinkered If they like but most of you were blinkered when I pointed out Lacy's flaws against Sheika until Joe beat him.
