Former British Lightweight Champion Lee Meager is out to do a better job on Laszlo Komjathi on September 7 than Amir Khan managed to do last year.

Meager returns to action next week for the first time since he was out-pointed by fellow Hennessy Sports boxer Jon Thaxton for the domestic title in December.

The London-based Salford slugger boxes the Hungarian over ten rounds in an international contest that is part of a supporting bill to the main event of Junior Witter versus Vivian Harris for the WBC Light-Welterweight Title at the The Dome at Doncaster Lakeside.

Sky Sports televise the Hennessy Sports & GoldenPalace.com show which also features the inaugural English Super-Flyweight Title fight between Robert Nelson and Andy Bell in an all-Yorkshire encounter.

Meager is aiming to earn a crack at European Lightweight Champion Yuri Romanov, the Belarusian who has been victorious on three occasions against British boxers, and sees Komjathi as ideal preparation.

"He took Khan six rounds and is a tough customer, so this is a good fight for me to return after being out for a few months," said Lee.

"He's a typical east European fighter and I'm hoping to go one better than what Khan managed by stopping him inside the distance.

"This is good practise for me against an east European fighter because I want to fight Romanov at some point soon. I'm ready for this. I've been in the gym since May after it took a while to get over the loss."

Promoter Mick Hennessy is confident Meager will be crowned a champion again.

"I have high hopes for Lee, who could challenge for the European Title later this year or in 2008," said Mick.

"Komjathi took Amir Khan to points after six rounds last year and most people thought if the fight had gone on any longer, Komjathi was definitely going to get on top. He has been in with tough opponents and is a good test for Lee."

I like Meager, he's good to watch and a hard working honest pro but he copp a beating from Romanov who is improving and has the potential to be one of the best lightweights in world. In fact I'd say he already is one the best lightweights in the world.

Thats a load of crap, Lazlo might of won one round and Khan was only and still Is a boy so Meager might well do the job faster.

Khan looks decidedly shaky while he still remains that open when he opens up Im not supprised people want a bit of that action if you beat him which Willie Limmond nearly did (I had a sodding £10 on him gutted) then you have a recognisable name on your record and everyone in Britain knows your name.

Khan needs a new trainer IMHO however untill that everyone will be shouting about him. Didn't Thaxton offer to fight him for free.

Same old same old press releases it has to stop.

Promotional companies clearly have a job to do, to promote their fighters and promote their shows, it has to be said Hennessy Sports on the whole are quite good at doing this job, in fact in many areas they are excellent.

But these press releases are getting boring, anyone who knows Lee Meager knows he is a quite unassuming bloke who does his talking with his fists in the ring. Meager is in that group of being one of the most genuine boxers around.

Lee Meager did fantastic in winning the British title against Dave Stewart. It was fabulous seeing him achieve his ambition, but he clearly lost his title by a wide margin against Jon Thaxton - with that said why does that loss now qualify Meagers promotional company to start trying to justify that Meager now deserves a shot at the European title?
