I thought he would get exposed, He had been hand fed like most of our fighters and was fairly limited apart from his power.
When will our trainers-Matchmakers learn that they need to give these guys some challenges on the way through the rankings instead of trying to con the public into thinking our fighters are world class :( :(

for sure.. but they probably think that there is no point in giving there boys a solid test be4 a title shot because lets face it, they can easily get to the title without stepping to far from their comfort zone (dawson is now wbo no.5 after knocking out solopov) and the trainers may well know their boys are not ready but to take a risk or fighting a good solid contender means a less lucrative payday if there is no title involved and a risk to their 0.. why do that if they can get the big payday with a chance to win the title, the trainers are still buisnessman with familys to feed

Dawson at least fought someone like Solopov, If he is matched right he could fight say Taylor or Geale so he is tested a bit more then head overseas with at least an inducation of were he is at.
Oganov fought noone and now he lost to a top 20-25 fighter at best he didnt even get a shot at the bigtime.

It was a fight I thought could go either way, so while I'm not surprised I am still disappointed...

How was he "hand fed"? Most of his fights have been in Europe, the British Isles and the Americas. Half of his fights were before he came here and he won most by knockouts and he had a 64-16 amateur record.

A boxer cannot fight a World Champion or contender in every fight. There are just not enough to go around.

He came to Australia as a 17-0 fighter and was fed Sam Lieu, Joel Burke etc Why didnt he at least fight someone like Murdoch or DeLisle or even guys like Hamden or Lovett would have been far better than the next 7-8 stiffs he fought.

Im not saying every fight should be for a title and your being rediculous by saying that but at least let him fight some of our better fighters before letting him be exposed in the US.

Do you like the way our fighters are brought through the ranks?. Im just glad to see fights like Dawson-Solopov being made now hopefully some of our other prospects can do the same.

Oganov has been to the USA and back to Europe since coming here. When you get a fighter who knocks everybody out (as Oganov did before this fight) the connections of top fighters tend to avoid him. Saturday just was not his night.

I have never been a big Oganov fan and always believed that he was over hyped, because he had a great punch, but he knocked out bums.

Anyone know anymore about this fight other than the result? I would have expected him to be thouroughly outclassed and then stopped, was this the case, or was he competitive?

I haven't seen it so I don't really know but they did say he scored knock down in the first round...

The difference was probably that Victor is used to that being the end and he wasn't sure what to do when his opponent got back up and kept fighting...

Emile Griffiths was World Welterweight Champion when Rubin Carter knocked him out in the first round in a non-title fight in 1963. It did not put a stop to Emile's career. He kept the title until he moved up to middleweight in 1966 (having won the welter title 3 times and lost it twice) and won the middleweight title twice.

Losing a fight is not the end of the road for a good fighter.

I just watched the entire fight. Victor knocked down his opponent in the first an extra 10 secs Zuniga was gone. Pretty even until the 5th. Oganov then suffered an accidental headbutt which his corner couldnt stop bleeding, they got warned for using excessive amounts of vaseline for the last 3 rounds of the fight. In the end Oganov's conditioning told he couldnt throw a punch in the ninth. It's hard to tell if the bleeding contributed to the loss or if his conditioning wasnt what it should have been, either way he ended up with nine stitches above his right eye.
