Heh, fitting.

Anways, I remember at one point that 'Warren' was bleeped out on the messageboards. Hey Frank, if you don't like what people say about you, then don't read it. I bet he doesn't have a pair to try and shut down the board of a rival boxer promoter (our own JohnShep). It's the internet Frank, deal with it.

Unfortunately it's not. Our favourite promoter can claim he's being defamed if something is written that in his opinion is not fair, balanced and accurate regarding either him as an individual or his business activities.
I think the most likely scenario is that he's using his financial muscle. If Eastside receive letters from lawyers threatening legal action, they might feel they can mount a defence, but have to balance that with the costs involved - the promoter obviously has far deeper pockets.
This can therefore be a very intimidating tactic and can lead websites to take the easy route out by losing the forum, rather than risk getting into a potentially costly legal battle that could mean them going out of business.
Classic 'bully-boy' tactics.

Well, What a load of Shite.

Firstly, I Can't believe that the "Owners" of eastside didnt bother to tell people that the forum would be taken off. I Mean what a bunch of pussies. People visit theier site giving it maximum coverage and exposure and then get shiited on from a great height.

Secondly, I dont see any of of promoting "peers" :-? setting up forums to give people a voice. All certain groups are to me are a bunch of twatts who can't take a bit of a bashing without seeing their arses over it.

But, Of Course, I dont know who got it shut down so can't direct my thoughts at the group OR individual responsible. The bad guy always hides in this situation in order to hide what a pussy he/she really is while hoping not to be officially revelaed as the one who shit on the people he needs.

" A Free Country " - I think not. :x :x :x

Does this mean we get ALL of the Eastside lot?

Gutted - this always seemed a more thoughtful, informed site.

Yes I noticed our fav promoter's name started appearing as ****** in the last few days.
Would he prefer we didn't talk about his fighters at all?! There wasn't even anything that terrible being said last time I looked - just watch, he'll have his sights set on boxrec before long...bloody terrible news really.

Personally I think it's now time to bring this to the attention of the media.

It happened at Britishboxing.co.uk, then the British forum of Secondsout.com and now it appears at ESB.

Surely if enough of us write to the likes of Boxing New, Boxing Monthly, and newspapers explaining the outrageous censorship that is going on the world of boxing it could make for an interesting story?

I for one have had enough of it, I think we all know what has happened and I think it's diabolical....

Benny (or anyone else who knows for that matter),
How do I change my name, as I'd like to use Deserter, which is what I used on eastside?
Has this site also been contacted by the Sports Network brigade?

I agree mate, but when I put up a post almost identical to yours in the lounge on Eastside it was deleted within minutes. I mailed them asking why, as I'd been careful not to make any legally unsafe comments, but I still haven't had a reply.
For what it's worth, I've mailed letters to Claude Abrams at Boxing News and Doug Fischer at MaxBoxing.com and asked them to publicise the issue as it has news value. I've also asked them to get Warren's side of the story as it would make their story more balanced and would also help us understand why he's taken this action.
The irony is that if he or some of his team came on to answer the type of criticisms that led to the site closing, he could have turned the whole thing into a positive PR exercise rather than a negative one - just look at the response the likes of David Haye got, even from his critics. This was because he earned their respect by his willingness to converse with them and to 'tell it like it is'. Whoever handles Warren's PR isn't doing a good job at all, and this sort of action can only create more bad press and bad feeling.
Somebody should try and get hold of the likes of Hugh McIllveny (he was writing for The Times), who is never afraid to tackle issues like this.

Amen to that, power hungry Spud is one person's posts I won't miss reading.

Don't think the mods should let him post on here if he tries, that guy is just trouble, as well as being an arrogant pr*ck. Wonder how arrogant he'll be without his modorating powers.

I just posted this question on a well known promoters website, addressed to a boxer we all know and love....

"Hi Joe,

Big dissapointment about your next fight falling through, better luck and more fights for 2004!

I have a question. As a world champion boxer do you think the censorship of British boxing fans on websites is a good thing?

During the last 12-18 months a number of British boxing forums have been closed down, forums which were becoming the voice of the boxing public and a place for fans to gather and discuss current issues including fighters such as yourself and Ricky Hatton.

Sometimes you guys get criticism and sometimes you get praise, do you think the closing down of these forums by an as yet unknown source is a bad thing for the sport?

Many thanks, James."

Well it's a case of Karma for Spud i think.

What goes around, comes around, and that halfwit acted like a total tw*t during my brief time on British Eastside. Frankly, I'm glad that Hennessy driven vehicle is off the road.

Fair enough but it's not just Spud who loses out from that forum being closed. The problem is now Boxrec's. The vast majority of posters will drift over, the same topics and views will no doubt resurface. It's essential we get to the bottom of why the British Eastside forum was pulled otherwise people will experience similar headaches here.

Yes but people are more respected here Lightsoot and, no disrespect, but luckily you are not a moderator here.

Spud was appalling in the way he conducted that forum, and the daft mentality that was prevelant at BE has never been the case here that I have seen.

Boxrec doesn't seem to generally lean towards a certain promoter (unlike British Eastside) and everyones views are noted and respected here.
