Micheal Hunter Jr. aka "Little Bounty/ Bounty Hunter" is a great young prospect... He has a good head on his shoulders and I feel is going places... I just called him to let him know people want to know who he is. I feel it would be best coming from him. As I said before he a great kid(19), he just turned 19 July 10, and will be 20 on 08/08/08... Go get them little bounty... Bring home a gold!!

Will be tough to medal at these games in the super heavies.

Good learning process for the kid though.

Far too early for him to face the likes of Cammarelle though!!!!

I wouldn't be surprised if he shock's the world... He has the ability to beat anyone in the world. He can be that good!! Watch out, the Bounty is coming 08/08/08...

Ask him about the Tyson Fury fight(another teen superheavyweight prospect, this time from England)and how close he felt it was(heard it was very close fight between the two bronze medallists at the world juniors

)

With the correct training, self-discipline, and natural maturation, he should be in fine shape next year. I would like to see him with 10# less fat and 20# more muscle by the time he boxes in the Olympics. If he trains hard and accomplishes that goal he may very well indeed shock the world. The kid does have some talent.

Don't know his exact record, but he had his 30th bout during the Trials.

I think the finals was #31.

Yes, Hunter is somewhat inexperienced, but I hope USAB corrects that problem. Get him at least a dozen international bouts and a bunch of local and national bouts. Get to 50 or more by next August.

is fury as inexpereinced as hunter?!?

hunter has only been fighting since 2002...with a name like tyson fury, i have a hunch that guy was working out in the playpen as an infant like PBF!!

He has got quite a lot of publicity over his name, which he got because he was so frail as a baby apparently!(he is now 6'6 and 240lb and still growning

He did'nt start boxing until he was about 14 though by all accounts.
Don't even think he has had as many bouts as young Hunter has.

Their respective careers thus far have been pretty similar, what with both having got a brozne medal at the junior worlds,and having had a similar amount of bouts, and started boxing at the same age.
Maybe their paths will cross on many an occasion in the future?

Fury won't be going to the olympics next year though.
David Price is by far and away England and Britians number 1, and he gave young Fury something of a lesson when they fought last year.
If any British super heavy goes to Beijing, it will be Price.

I feel 11 months in training camp is going to bring out the best in the "young bounty"... He has a lot of ability that I feel Coach Dan will sharpen him up, and he is going to focus on international rules and international boxing... He is going to be hell come 08/08/08...

Depends on the draw though; if Timurziev gets his act together and Hunter draws him; he's screwed.

Mike is slick enough to pull off some major upsets, as he did in the trials, and he is a fast learner. Although he is going to put on some muscle and set down a little more on his punches, it is that crazy defense, that resembles his dads, that has been his bread and butter. As far as how his dad died, I would hope that we could just leave it that it was an unfortunate ending for a boxer that had a lot of talent and now has a son that can learn from those mistakes. I know he loves to read our comments on this site.

Either; although I feel Timurziev, if he is the Russian representative, would have more trouble this year than next year at the Olympics. His stamina is a big issue and I think he's still recovering from cancer; I expect if he's selected he'd be in much better shape come next year; and I hold the fact that he managed to Knockdown Povetkin in high regard.

i am amazed how easy of a time he had at these OTs with only 30 bouts under his belt!!

I am not. Hunter has some skill, while his opponents do not. the #1 heavy before Hunter was Mike Wilson. Wilson can win a match in an international tournament with a good draw, but he is shark bait once he fights one of the favorites.

Its refreshing to read about a USA amateur heavyweight with some skill. Hunter needs to stay in shape. I hear this was a problem in some of his previous fights. If Hunter does well in the World Championships ( Say a Bronze ) the USA Boxing writers will almost have to anoint him as the great American hope. Can the kid ignore the hype and focus on boxing?

He is a humble, nice-spoken young person who, I think, will stay grounded. I met his mother in Houston and she is a very fine person herself. She's done well with Michael.

No, don't know the details - except that his dad and mother have been separated/divorced for many years. He was raised by his mom.
